My 89 year old mother’s c-diff is back after multiple rounds of antibiotics: flagyl, vanco, vanco plus xifaxin, now on vanco plus cipro (cipro just prescribed by the skilled nursing facility Dr). She is too feeble to bring to Duluth for the fecal transplant. Her GI in south Florida will not perform the procedure.
I will be flying from CA to FL next week and my sister to follow. I’m convinced that one of us should be fecal donors. We don’t have hepatitis, HIV, or c-diff, but I don’t know about parasites. I’m considering several approaches:
1)Hire a private duty RN to insert the naso-gastric tube and then follow the Duluth, Minn. instructions,
2)Watch the how-to videos on www.youtube.com
regarding insertion of ng tubes and do it myself, then follow the Duluth, Minn. instructions,
3)Forget about the ng tube and just give her a chocolate and filtered poop milkshake,
4)Put fecal paste in gel capsules to swallow with something delicious,
5)Locate a healthy, breastfed baby and use their poop for one of the above methods.
I don’t think that she will survive the C-diff or the strong antibiotics without something drastic like the above. Any thoughts from you would help me decide. Many thanks.
