Re: Suffering and just found this site
Megan I would get an ID doc and GI. Most of us take the Vanco or flagyl at home and they admit us if we start going downhill fast. I was admitted many times for very high WBC and bad watery D. I would call around and find docs today so you can be prepared if you need help. You do not want to have to go to er to keep treating this.

Definitely see a GI or an ID. We have posters who use either or both. Vanco. should be "kicking in" by now and you should feel better. Ask your internist for a referral to a specialist now as it is almost the end of the week. If he/she doesn't have any ideas, check the Doctors Forum or call a local hospital and ask for some names. You can also rate a doctor on the Internet. Think it's called "Health Grade." Google for it.
Sorry we overlooked your post for awhile. Sometimes we have so many new posters at once, this happens. Always post back if you don't hear from one us in a couple of days.
I'm impressed you have read a lot of the site and glad it was helpful.
Best wishes and let us know how you are doing.

Re: Suffering and just found this site
Thank you for your advice. I found a doctor to treat me today . He is a gi doctor. He told me to stay on the vanco 125 for 2 weeks then do a 2 week taper of one pill a day. My insides feel like they are burning me . He says that colon ulcers heal in a few days or so. I am hoping this pain goes away. Someone in another thread mentioned a heating pad which did help me a lot. I am just so sad .. why me.. If I recover from this I will appreaciate life more. I am so happy to have found this board so I know I am not alone. People just don't understand and think this is nothing.

You WILL recover!!
By now you should be improving.
Getting vanco as the first treatment is brilliant!
That's a strange and low taper but to get it as the first treatment is rare! and probably better than stopping cold turkey
I would guess that 8 to 9 out of 10 would recover on 1st treatment if their Dr prescribed like that!

My stools were mushy almost the entire time I was on Vanco. If you are generally feeling better and not having watery diarrhea any more, then I think you are on the right track. Hang in there.

My stools got looser with vanco. If I remember right, I added a probiotic and then things started to improve. I also had to stop eating yogurt as I became lactose intolerant.

Also had mushy stool for months after Vanco so don't let that worry you. Let us know how you do.

Hearing loss and kidney damage are usually linked to IV Vanco - Not oral Vanco. I've been on both for extended time without a problem.

I got more ringing while on vanco, but I had ringing before and still have it. It was a little worse on vanco, but when I stopped it got better again. I think many meds can do this - even aspirin.
