Cdiff and IBD

Postby Steffi » Fri Sep 10, 2021 5:56 am

Dears,

Do you know whether there is a big risk to develop IBD (Crohn's or UC) as a result of cdiff infection?

Many thanks in advance!

No it's not connected and does not cause it but if you have it asymptomatic before C.Diff it certainly makes it worse.

Thank you Roy,
I read on our Bulgarian news that some doctors-specialized in IBD are expecting new IBD treatments in the next few years ... we all know that another bad illness - Hepatitis C now can be already definitely cured forever with the new treatment which was recently discovered even though it is too expensive - just as an example ... so my point is: the mentioned illnesses are in the gastro field and we see the medical advances in their treatments, what is so special of this ugly cdiff so they still can't find the cure ? - maybe the farmaceutical companies are just not interested in investments to find a cure for cdiff... I don't know what to think already ...

C. Diff is curable!
Most are cured by a single course of treatment.
C. Diff is not even classed as a superbug because there's several antibiotics that are very effective at killing it.

Ok, good to know it, Roy
Yes, one year ago my cdiff was cleared after 1 single round of metro - 10 days, even very soon after that I took another antibiotic for UTI which I received immediately after cdiff, it was a kind of "light" antibiotic - biseptol, but still it was an antibiotic ... luckily nothing happened - I did not relapse. My problem is that my gastro system now - 1 year after cdiff is not the same like it was before cdiff. I do not have symptoms of cdiff colitis and I am negative since December 2020, however I do not feel completely healthy, is there a person in this world who could understand me ? :) If I am "cured", can I drink one big cup of cappuccino/late with milk and eat one huge chocolate like I did every day before cdiff?

I was told by a specialist in motility issues (SIBO) that c diff can damage the nerve endings in the intestines and people will have problems with food intolerances after. That is what I have. I also have never gone back to what I could eat before c diff, although I am once again trying to introduce new foods. They are working on a treatment (cure?) for IBS. They have done clinical trials, so as you said, maybe in a few years down the road, there will be a cure for it. I sure hope so!

Thank you very much, Beth, yes, looks like now we have to control the consequences of cdiff.
I will wait for the new treatments and also hope a lot!
