Surgery prep w Hibiclens ok??
I’m having a breast duct excision surgery in a couple of days and was told to shower the night before and morning of with a half bottle of Hibiclens from the shoulders to hips. It is an antiseptic and antimicrobial skin cleanser. Will this alter my flora?? I had cdiff summer of 2018.

Hello and Welcome to the site Please read the first thread for all new posters
The BEST resource is your pharmacist. Check with them.
I have never heard any issues using Hibiclens or betadine....which they will use as a surgery Prep. I know the worry but generally these are topical cleansers.
Wishing you the best with your surgery

I had breast surgery after c diff and had to do the same thing with the Hibiclens and had no issues. I also requested no prophylactic antibiotics to be given and I did not get them. I did not get an infection. The Hibiclens seemed to do whatever it is supposed to do.

It won't! It used as a topical antiseptic and won't be absorbed into the gut.

You should ask your doctor. But every time you use hand sanitizer or an antibacterial wipe you're using an antimicrobial skin cleanser without an an issue.

No known c.diff risk but not using it might result in an infection that requires antibiotics.
