New & confused pls help!

Postby DwoH13 » Sun Nov 12, 2017 11:29 pm

Any help after this long winded post will be greatly appreciated. I will take any and all advice with an open mind.
“Start date 7-19-2016” I saw my Primary Dr as I had been having stomach issues from my gallbladder for 3 months. 7-28-2016 gallbladder surgery. 3 weeks later I was still very sick they performed battery of to the tune of $30,000. 9-5-16 results came back showing rare Papillary thyroid cancer in my neck. 10-18-16 full thyroidectomy. 12-16-16 edg for abdominal distention my waist went from 29 to 51 in a matter of 40 minutes. Found 2 hernias one in the belly one top of the rib cage. 1-16-2017 hernia surgery only on 1 other is to invasive. 2-16-2017 radiation for cancer finally. Colonoscopy 3-21-17 absolutely perfect as it “crap” pardon the pun can be. Skip to end of April I was good till then, distention came back sent to specialists 7 hours away. 6-5-17 Wanted to do surgery on excess skin the distention had caused insurance denied 3 times. (Was not a weight issue) 7-15-17 rescan of neck for cancer NO CANCER FOUND “so far” 8-22-17 primary dr check up A ok no issues. 9-9-17 ER admission kidney failure and UTI hospital stay of 5 days. Within 5 days I called my gastro Dr as I was concerned about a mucus & light blood when I wiped twice but then it went away. Had a hospital follow up 3 weeks later. They had me do a stool test to see if maybe I had an infection I was like oh ok I was clueless.

BOOM c diff- why in world did I just fight for my ever loving life with cancer to get something from a hospital stay hat couldn’t even contain something from a patient that was there to get healthy again! What is this c diff I ask the nurse? I lose it. I tell her after she tells me this is worse than most other diseases. Is this a joke?

Are you kidding me?

My hospital room was filthy when I was taken to it, they hadn’t cleaned the other patients side that was checked out the night before. (I was admitted at 2 pm) they finally came and cleaned it at 1 am the next day. There was a bottle of flu vaccine I’m the room as well. Then they brought a girl in who had a family or 6 come and go who constantly used our bathroom.

What am I to tell my husband and kids? I’m in my 40s. I work with abused kids. I haven’t had diarrhea or I should say when my bowels were even close to being lose (they never were ever runny or chills. Can we still be intimate? I can’t stop crying. My husband thinks something’s wrong with us. My hands hurt from where I’m bleaching things so much. The Drs have me freaked out. Please help. Ask me questions I may have forgotten something. I keep searching for groups and have no where to or anyone to talk to.

Hello Dwoh13 and Welcome to the site Please read the first thread for all new posters

I am sorry you had to find us but there are alot of us here to lend support. Its sounds like you were admitted with CDIFF but how long were you there and treated? Do you know what medication they gave you? How are you feeling now?
It's possible you were treated in the hospital and are now in recovery. Your symptoms were not typical of CDIFF with no diarrhea at all. At this point you may want to ask your GI where to go from here especially if you have NO symptoms at this time.

Sorry you are dealing with Cdiff , although as Nanci said , everything you said is a bit confusing. You haven't had the D ,fever or abdominal pain as that are the classic symptoms of active Cdiff. Mucus doesn't necessarily means Cdiff although blood is a concearning sign that needs to be investigated more . C.diff is a normal gut inhabitant that even though is not active you can still test positive for it 1 to 4 healthy people can test positive for it , it becomes active when it overgrows and it causes a disease named colitis that presents itself with frequent D.

I was in the hospital for 5 days and they kept me on an antibiotic the whole 5 days. Prior to that I had been odd and on antibiotics 6 times from Nov 2016 until Aug 2017 4 times for UTIS with my low immune system from the cancer then my thyroid medication was off but at first they thought I had strep so they put me on clyndemiacian? Along with a steroid then they figured out it was the other.

The most I have pottied in a day is 5 times that has only been on 2 occasions and it was just loose but not watery like it would be if I were sick with the flu diarrhea type symptoms.

I was not to see the Dr till dec 6 I went by today and moved my appt up to this Friday with the gastro dr to discuss what’s next.

I appreciate both of your swift responses.

I am glad to hear you are getting in with the GI. Make sure he has your hospital records and knows what you were treated with, call his office to confirm this. I would also sit down and write your current symptoms and your medical history. It does sound like you were on and off antibiotics for quite some time and the mention of Clindamycin which is one of the worst offenders. As far as they Thyroid cancer, not sure what type of treatment you had but I have not heard of that making you more prone to CDIFF, certainly the antibiotics do.
I will add I hope you are seeing an Endocrinologist to monitor the thyroid medication. I had CDIFF and treatment for a year with 5 relapses, it threw off my thyroid medication completely due to the weight loss. It can take some time to get all of that in order. I also had Thyroid cancer/surgery but it was 4 years before CDIFF.

My Endocrinologist is a very lovely man. He’s been really good about having new labs ran if I start losing my hair or my nails breaking etc, to see if my thyroid meds need changed. My gastrointestinal Dr should have and I wish I could show my record notes to you from the hospital as I keep copies of everything. (I started doing this when i was diagnosed with cancer)

Making this a quick reply before I leave for work but Inam going to respond back with what my C diff results showed as well as the other stoll tests they ran and anything else.

I honestly am very grateful to have found this site as well as anyone that will speak with me on it.

Thank you
Until later

Hi DwoH13!

After all you've had to overcome, remind me to never complain about my own health problems! I don't know how you have held up this well! Congratulations on overcoming the gallbladder surgery, the thyroid cancer and removal, the hernias, the kidney failure, the UTI and the high costs! Wow! I don't know you but I would guess that, every time you are knocked down with a serious issue, you spring back up fighting! Tough lady!

You said that your hospital room was filthy. What is your country? Are you in the US?

C-diff is very debilitating. When I had it, I had watery diarrhea, on and off, for two months. I was extremely weak, had no strength, could barely walk, had balancing problems and suffered with terrible malaise. I could barely lift my feet off the floor! My ankles and feet swelled up to almost twice their size. Though, no pain or headaches or blood or mucus.

I know everyone is somewhat different, but I wanted to list my symptoms for something for you to compare against as a help to determining if you actually do have a toxin-producing case of C-diff.

Did your C-diff test show the presence of Toxin A or Toxin B?

Hopefully, you can get better quickly from C-diff and you and your family can get back to a good quality of life without any more stressful health issues.

Regards, and best wishes, Bob
