CT Results: Funny but not!

Postby NanciT » Fri Jul 08, 2016 4:38 pm

I was just reading through my CT results from my ER visit the other day, clearly I was out of it when I first read this report. I was so excited the report was negative,
I completely missed something the radiologist ended the report with, it stated:

Patient is morbidly obese.

I had to read it again, make sure it was my name and BD. Make sure the correct CT was done or they were looking at the right patient. I am no way obese......and Morbidly obese? Well....if I weighed another 250lbs maybe!
I thought about calling........but think I will just forget about it, need to put that all behind me

I would not ignore that!
If it's on your record it will affect things like health insurance, life insurance, travel insurance etc for the rest of your life!
I don't know your age or weight but it can have a seriously negative impact on your credit availability.

Nancy, don't forget to make sure they pull the original from the hospital records and/or override the electronic medical record and replace it with the revised one rather than just add an addendum with a correction to pacify you.

Yes...I agree with all of you but I really thought it was so very funny...at first! I guess the Meds they gave me, I saw it with humor! I am THIN.....I thought how hysterical is this!! I had CDIFF and Post IBS now forever and I have such a limited diet...well...my husband and I both laughed about it.
How could the radiologist even make the error, clearly you can see the size of the patient in the CT!

But...roy is right, have to get this OUT of my medical record.

I do see the humor in that but hope you can get it off your record! The other day when I was at the Dr I said I was concerned about how quick I'd lost weight. He told me it's from my new diet free of dairy and sweets (which I ate tons of both) but also followed with that he's not concerned based on the size I was when I started this and it couldn't hurt for me to lose another 35 lbs... First you tell me my c diff is back and then you call me fat! Lol have to laugh it off.

Along the same line, just slightly different...
I am really small- under 5'1- and thin, usually between 107-110
My GERD was out of control last year when I was on a trip to Germany so I went to my GI when I returned
I had gained about 3 lbs since my last visit
He says sometimes when you gain only a few lbs the reflux gets bad!!!!
My mouth just hung open. Then I said " Are you kidding me? What am I supposed to do? I am hardly overweight! How thin do I have to be? "
He just said "I know, but it sometimes happens".

There is nothing that can be said in response to that. Good thing he's such a good dr.

I had two stories similar to yours. When I was in grad school I got an ovarian cyst and had an ultrasound. I was on my parents' insurance and they sent a bill a couple of months later that said I had an ectopic pregnancy. My mom is a nurse, and she called me quite upset--and asked me why I hadn't called them if I had emergency surgery. Huh? She then said, well, I guess it was coded wrong, because if you'd had a tubal pregnancy and no surgery, you'd be dead by now.

Then years later I got norovirus, and was so sick the ER docs thought I had an obstruction or something awful, ran tons of tests, and admitted me for 2 days. I got the bill a couple of months later and it said congestive heart failure! I was about 30 years old and very petite, and still to this day have no heart problems. I was freaked out and called my mom to ask if I had heart failure, lol. She said I am the queen of medical coding errors, but did recommend that I call the hospital and my doctor to get that corrected so it wouldn't make it impossible to get health insurance in the future. crazy stuff

During my first visit to the ER recently for abdominal pain, D and anxiety, which I now know was the C. Diff, I had to correct at least 2 nurses, a tech, the person taking my information and the doctor that I wasn't there for a fall!

I had never uttered the word fall, and other than the anxiety, unless I fell on a pitchfork I couldn't see it causing the abdominal pain and D. :)

This has turned into a crazy mess. After about 20 calls and one visit to the hospital Admin's office, the radiologist refuses to change it. The Admin rep called and said he stands by what he wrote and that there are new standards. I explained to her there are good and bad doctors as we all know and clearly he does not know what he is talking about. He has now been asked to substantiate what he has written. I gave her the CDC standards which is something I teach and I fall right into the normal zone since I have put on 7 lbs since CDIFF. Before I was underweight. It is just crazy.

All these hospital error are ridiculous!

When I was 10yo a hospital misdiagnosed me as epileptic and it went on my record.
I never knew anything about it untill I had an insurance medical 35 years later.
They loaded my life insurance premium by 50% and excluded brain problems!
It's still on my records now but with a note that it's "probably" a misdiagnosis.
Not much chance of me getting that removed now 50 years later!
I wonder if one of those no win no fee lawyers would consider taking it up as a medical negligence suit.
The threat of doing that might sharpen their minds!
Don't get stressed by it though.
My attitude to this type of thing is "I am going to have fun with this and be a total pain in their butt"
If your stressed about it just let it go but if you can see it as a fun challenge that's not going to harm you GO FOR THE THROAT!

Thanks Roy.
We have been in a battle with( a chain store here) after my husband used some over the counter eye moisturizers drops. He had terrible burn to his eyes requiring ER visit, specialist brought in, and several visits with an eye specialist. After much research we came to It was so caustic, it burned part of his face.We came to the conclusion the chemicals used to clean the machines that produce the eye drops were tainted. The packet was tested but they would not produce results. We found another case from 1 year ago. It has been a terrible battle and attorneys said" if you don't go blind, you won't get much". We did not hire an attorney but had 4 opinions. This has been worth the fight due to the medical bills we have. In the end, we may get some of the medical paid for. We had to decide which battle to fight. After reviewing the packages closely, I found out the generic brand was made in Korea, we could not get any information about this. I now look at where all generics are made, there are different standards and inspections.

Scary errors - and the patient usually pays.
