Gina BC Case History

Postby ginabc » Tue May 04, 2010 12:47 am

In January had swollen glands behind my ears. I went to an urgent care center to get checked. The doctor said I had a double ear infection and gave me Batrium. After the second day of dose I got what I thought was a violent alergic reaction. Heart racing, legs shaking, dry mouth, unquenchable thirst and explosive diareha that went on for hours. I made an appt to see my GP. Went to see GP he told me to throw away the meds and gave me Augmentin for a sinus infection my ears were clear.
I was afraid to take the Augmentin and decided to only take a half of dose for the next 10 days. I was fine for ten days went to see my sister in California. Have severe constipation ( I get this alot when traveling) Came home and the next day went out to dinner with friends. Share a great meal. When I got home I felt strange again. Heart raising, legs shaking, sweating, dry mouth, thirty like never before and explosive D* I thought I had food poisoning. Was sick for 2 days and then went on to my life. 4 Days later made dinner for family and that night same illness again.
Went to GP that next day. Now I told them that all 3 episodes were the same. The smell is horrible and strange color orange. And now I have pain in my sides. Nurse Practionor suspected C DIFF told me to turn in stool test asap. I did. 4 days later positive for C DIFF put on Flagyl for 14 days 3 x per day. Horrible meds could not get out of bed for 14 days. Got another stool test waited 4 more days positive again. Switched to VANCO for 14 days and referred to a GI and ID doctor. GI DR wants to do colonoscopy and added Florastor to treatment. ID doctor say no to colonoscopy and extended to 28 days 125 QID. NOw I am on a VANCO taper for the next six weeks and am scared to death. When to see another ID a specialist in C DIFF Dr. Stuart JOhnson from Loyola Hospital in Maywood. He said stay the course. The only way to know if you are better is to stop taking meds. Dont freak on about symtoms they are both the same ACTIVE AND NOT ACTIVE C DIFF. Your GUT FLORA is being restored and has been through alot. Unless you have over 10 D* per day and high fever he will not retreat me and wants me off meds. After off meds for 10 days they will re assess any additonal treatment necessary.
I am a 39 year old married women with 2 great kids and a loving husband.A great puppy named Little Bear too. I have a career that is on hold for now I sell mortgage loans. I need to get better. I am most days house bond. I have horrible nausea in the morning, pain in my insides and fatigue.I was reccommended to see an IMMUNOLOGIST tomorrow. Will update status
