CW's case history- 8 year old, 7 months later

Postby JennyWest » Sat Nov 22, 2008 10:16 pm

After treating CW naturally for 5 months- he was doing okay- up and down throughout the week up to 5 days with regular bms. I tried him on Florastor too, and as long as I gave it to him everyday he did pretty good- but not cured, if we stopped giving it to him- the d would come back. The pharmacist rec. that we go back to the Doctor- "he should have been over it by now." So we did.

They ran a new test which turned out neg. However, the doc. put him on Flagyl for 10 days anyway. Still the d would be up and down- good and bad days. So we went to GI specialists at Shands. They ran another test- still neg. but, still same symptoms. We did 2 weeks of no juice (I did not know that included Gatoraid) and then 2 weeks of no dairy. We saw some improvement with no juice and he had a reaction right after re-introducing it. No change when taken off of dairy.

We just went back at the beginning of this week for test results. Still neg. on the C. Diff. and they also checked to see if he had Celiac disease- this was neg. too. When I told the Doc. about the juice, she mentioned we shouldn't have given Gatoraid either. She said its the sugars in it. The cramps he would have - he pointed to his stomach. So, she recommended to stay off of sugary drinks, take PrevAcid and give him Fiber tablets.

I thought that it may be the High Fructose sugar that is not only in juice but in a lot of foods- so we did what the doc. said and watched other foods that contained the corn syrup as well- and guess what? All week now, he has done well- including no cramps!

I did some research tonight on High Fructose Corn Syrup on the internet- and have found that it can be linked to d. (gastrointestinal problems).
