Kathy's Case History

Postby kreed » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:04 pm

It has been one year exactly since I was diagnosed with Cdiff. My doctor lost my first test that the hospital ER sent to her and I went untreated for 4 months. She told me the hospital had not sent her the results so "No News is Good News", thus no treatment until the day she found the results. She then put me on Flagyl for one week and called it good. I remained sick throught the rest of the year until Thanksgiving, 2005. I became very ill and my stomach hurt like never before. My fever jumped to 103 and I could not eat or drink without throwing up. I though maybe I was having a bout with intestinal flu but after a couple of days I went to the hospital and the doctor admitted me with complete instestinal block. After 4 days of misery and test, I called a colon specialist to see what a second opinion might be and he said I had Intestinal Volvulous. He did emergency surgery and found that my cecum was floating and my large and small intestines were interwined. After removing 10 inches of my colon I got much better until my 3rd week after surgery. I began to run fever, vomit and have the terrible diareaha again. He emmediately put me back on Flagyl for 10 days and took a stool culture. After the test came back he told me he wanted to keep me on the Flagyl for another 2 weeks. I have been off the Flagyl only 24 hours and already have syptoms coming back. I was very disappointed to find I had such an extensive surgery to still feel as bad as I ever did. I don't know what his next step will be, but it will surely be another medication. Time will tell.
