I am now 1 week shy of my cdiff free year. I have never retested but every time I have a little bowel upset, loose or D, my thoughts and fears automatically go to, is cdiff coming back. I then start the spiral thinking process of, maybe I missed cleaning something that had spores on it, my family carried something in, something I touched in the store and it just goes on and on and then the depression and anxiety start. My family then gets anger with me because I look to them for reassurance. They say I just can't admit that I'm over it, let it go. So, as I am entering this message from my laptop without gloves that I have not wiped off with bleach wipes for a few days, I 'm telling my self to move forward and go back to normal living as I have read Roy and others have posted here many times. Be Well.

This is a question I have pondered since one of my docs (primary) wanted me to retest but specialist (ID) said no. So I did some research and this is what I found from a reliable source:

http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idep ... sting.html

Testing

Only watery or unformed stools should be collected and tested
Testing asymptomatic patients is not clinically useful, and may lead to the use of unnecessary antibiotics
Repeat testing during the same episode of diarrhea is not recommended
“Test of cure” is not recommended
Retest after completion of treatment only if signs and symptoms of infection continue.
Avoid routine testing of children <1 year of age
Testing for children 1-3 years can be considered, but testing for other causes of diarrhea (e.g. viral) is recommended first
Children >3 years can be tested in the same manner as older children and adults
For all testing and treatment recommendations in infants and children, refer to the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statem

My GI dr told me this over 3 yrs ago when I had c diff. Depending upon the test you have, if it is an older test you can test positive if you are colonized and don't have c diff infection. He told me not to test after treatment in case I was colonized. At the time the lab did not do PCRs. False positives lead to over treatment. If you are not ill you don't need testing or treatment.
But 3+ years later I still worry that IBS attacks might be c diff, etc so....it is hard!

I am going to lock this post as it's 3 pages long. This started off as an older post but is a great topic of discussion, so if you want to continue this topic, feel free to start a new thread. Thanks so much.
