Share info on DISCOLORED TONGUE / THRUSH

Postby L.S. » Thu Aug 23, 2007 7:13 pm

I saw my dentist because my tongue is yellow and fuzzy looking. I thought it might be Thrush which, for those who are not familiar, is a fungal infection that can be caused by antibiotics.

After he checked it he showed me how to tell the difference (I wish my GI was that understanding).

In front of a mirror, rub your tongue downward with a paper towel (from middle toward front teeth). If nothing comes off it's simply flora based discoloration (or lack there of), usually from antibiotics......gee what a surprise.

If Thrush is present, a film will come off, exposing tiny sores or red spots that can sometimes bleed. They can also burn when eating or drinking.

In conclusion, I do not have Thrush. However, I have noticed a big difference in the discoloration of my tongue (more normal) since taking Culturelle.

Health and happiness to all.
