New Mom with C Diff

Postby Giana » Wed Nov 02, 2022 8:33 pm

My son was born was on 9/14 via c section and about 3 days later, I was told I had C Diff due to antibiotics I was on during labor. My husband and baby were sent home without me for 2 nights. Just awful.

I relapsed about a week after the vanco finished up. My GI then put me on difficid . I am about 9 days out from that and woke up today with diarrhea. Seems to be more mild but I’m still scared. Taking care of a newborn with this infection is absolutely awful.

Did anyone need to do at least 2 rounds of difficid in order for it to work? At what point should I just get an FMT? Any help is appreciated.

I had two rounds (although they swapped me to Vanco partway through the second one ready to administer the first FMT). You could ask for a longer, tapered course first, I believe others on here have had success with that.

So sorry you’re going through this at such a time, must be especially tough.
Contracted C Diff from a round of Flucloxacillin, November 2020.

Metronidazole - Metronidazole - Dificid - Dificid - Vancomycin - Upper GI FMT - Vancomycin - Vancomycin - Lower GI FMT

Did the FMT ultimately work for you?

Second attempt, via colonoscopy.

SO sorry you are going through this. Try and see an Infectious Disease specialist. Dificid is often now used as a taper. In my case it was the only thing that worked. It has been used as a taper for quite some time but often an ID would know more about it.

I do want to mention you can get D after treatment and it does not always mean it is back. If it is constant, several times a day that is a warning it could be.

Take care and I hope you feel better soon
