Surely not, after a year and no antibiotics?
I can’t believe this might be happening again. In hospital on a drip and I await my sample result. If it’s positive I really do question whether I will ever be free of this damn disease. If negative then what the hell is it? I know no one can answer that, I just needed to shout out.
Contracted C Diff from a round of Flucloxacillin, November 2020.

Let us know the results. Hopefully not c difficile. Did they do a stool culture for other bacteria?

I think they must have done, as I had to give 2 samples. I had severe D seven times yesterday. I’m meant to be on a drip but the cannula stopped working so they took it out and told me to just drink water. That means I have to pee every half an hour! I think my body is trying to get rid of something, and I’m not hydrating well. Area round my pancreas and gallbladder hurt too so I guess it could be bile acid d. Feel so ill! They seem reluctant to do any tests, like a HIDA or EUS. Ugh, need to wait for result, I guess. The doc mentioned metronidazole and I had to explain it’s no longer recommended. Why don’t they know this?!

I'm surprised they told you metronidazole as you are right that it is no longer recommended for c difficile and I was told when I had elevated pancreatic enzymes that it would make that condition worse. Wait and see what your stool test results indicate.

Negative. Thank god.
Given this fact, and the intense pain around my pancreas and gallbladder, it seems clear to me it was bile acid diarrhoea. Will they have a bar of it? No. Will they do any investigations? Only another CT and given my age and that I’ve had the equivalent of 17 years’ worth of radiation in the past 18 months I’m not keen to have any more. Tried to arrange a HIDA scan privately but there is an international shortage of the required contrast dye. No one will do an EUS. They won’t do an echocardiogram to investigate the chest pain/palpitations either. My legs turned purple when I stood up and I thought I was going to faint. I am certain I have an infection, they just can’t find it, just like when I still had C Diff and they kept saying I didn’t. And I can’t treat it empirically like most people could in case it gives me a C Diff relapse.
Scary times.

Re: Surely not, after a year and no antibiotics?
I go for MRCP ( a type of MRI scan) every two years for the pancreas/gallbladder. That has no radiation and does not even need contrast. Ask your doctors about that or an abdominal MRI which also shows other parts and might see an infection if there is one. One year I had an abdominal and pelvic MRI at the same time. But, the MRCP is the one the pancreatic and liver specialist orders.

Thanks Beth, I will ask for this. A lovely nurse told me last night they have all the facilities right here so the doc that told me they couldn’t do anything but a CT scan is a liar.
Thanks for listening!
