Oral Lichen Planus
Has anyone ever been diagnosed with Oral Lichen Planus during or after Cdiff? I was on Vancomyacin for over 4 months before I was able to get an FMT. Since then I developed a mild case of PI IBS. Somewhere along the journey I developed a healthy case of Oral Thrush and Oral Lichen Planus in my mouth. Could this be a result of the Antibiotics as it did seem to start about then or is it aĺl just coincidental timing?

Re: Oral Lichen Planus
Hi
I have not seen this related although CDIFF can knock down immunity and Lichen Planus is often an autoimmune illness. I was also diagnosed a year after I had CDIFF and had been treated for 12 months for CDIFF.
I recall the dermatologist telling me my immunity was very low, ferriten was extremely low when they diagnosed this.
It's difficult to know if I would have developed this now, later or not at all.
Sorry this does not help much

Re: Oral Lichen Planus
Actually it does help me in a way. This was all a result of a Giardia infection I received on the job. Treated that with antibiotics then diagnosed with Cdiff as a result and treated some more with antibiotics. Up to this point everything has been covered as a work related injury and this may fall under that coverage as well if it is suspected that it all stemmed from the initial Giardia / Cdiff infection. Low immunity etc as a result of the duration on antibiotics, Cdiff, PI-IBS etc. Not to mention lack of good nutrition etc during this whole scenario. Thank You for the reply..

NanciT Did your Lichen Planus go away on its own or is still ongoing?

The oral thrush is probably from the antibiotics you took. My mother got it after treating for c difficile and other posters have had it too.

Re: Oral Lichen Planus
In my case Lichen Planus is an autoimmune disease, not something caused by CDIFF. Even the CDIFF I came down with in 2014/15( I had for 1 year) was not considered a work comp despite I am a nurse and was teaching at a hospital. The Infectious disease specialist I see was clear it can be picked up anywhere....
I would not relate Lichen Planus to CDIFF. Many get yeast infections from Vanco as I did but it was not the cause of that. Medications can cause side effects for some and not others, we just dont know why.
Hope this helps

Re: Oral Lichen Planus
That's the first time I have heard of an infectious disease being accepted as work related.

Re: Oral Lichen Planus
It was covered due to the unique nature of my living and working environment in a company camp worksite. My company provides the housing and specifically the drinking water source where I contracted the Giardia from. In turn the antibiotics for the Giardia caused the Cdiff. So it was decided it and all associated medical issues were a direct result of employment..
