I started getting it around 7-10 days into augmentin. I had never even heard of it so fought it for about a week before I sought treatment.

So you were still taking it at the time?

I started right away with Augmention ( within 24 hrs) my first time with CDIFF in 2014.

Last year while in the hospital I was given IV antibiotics and once again it started within 24 hours even though they had also started me on Vanco.

NanciT, what did they give you antibiotic in your IV for? If you don't mind me asking?

Beth22, wow six weeks later?! That's crazy. I thought by then, good bacteria would have already grown. Doctor told me today I have a UTI and they wanted to give me antibiotics in my IV but I refused. I think I'll just drink cranberry juice.

I just got done taking doxycycline not long ago. No real issues to report, but I did start taking glycerol and L reuteri after I was done with the doxy. There’s studies that the combo was as effective as Vanco at killing spores. I’m a big proponent of anything not big pharmaceutical and it apparently worked for a coworkers wife. I saw Bobbie posted the study so figured why not. I work out and glycerol is good for weight lifting and l reuteri is a probiotic that we all had at one time, although our obese western diet has decreased that over the years. I’m not saying run out and order it, but in my case I wasn’t taking any chances.

I was given Rocephan. The ER Doc did not call my ID, in the middle of Covid they had no time and the nurse gave it to me.....and told me as she was adding it to my IV. I was alone and in pain, terrible experience but during Covid ER's are short staffed. They gave me oral Vanco thinking that would help, it did not.

Trying to avoid going there.....

Augmentin is just nasty nasty stuff Nancy. The pill size alone should be a tip-off. I work a lot around retirement homes and have learned that lots of workers as well as residents point to augmentin as a cdiff nightmare. Yet docs prescribe it millions of times for a sinus infection that could be waited out, or in my case given doxy. The only issues I had while taking doxy was from the florastor and yogurt. Once I stopped that all was well.

Yes, Augmentin along with MANY other antibiotics are serious CDIFF offenders. We have a list on the site of the worst offenders. Sometimes it can be from just one pill as well as any IV antibiotic as in my experience last year. But often in the ER patients are very ill, in pain and alone so it is a challenge being on top of what is being added to the IV as in my case last year.

I avoid all antibiotics....but sometimes that is not possible either.

1dad I’m glad you are doing better! I didn’t take any antibiotics so I have no clue how I got it!

D1dad- if you don't mind me asking, what did you take doxy for? And you are saying you didn't get c.diff from it? Is doxy a low offender?

NanciT- I am so sorry to hear you had to go through that. That makes me upset to hear. Did you beat c.diff after that?

Doxy is one of the lower offenders. My mom had c diff and she was on doxy for a month and never got a relapse.

You should not ask a poster to give details of why an antibiotic was prescribed.
