Want this to be over

Postby Jodiekee » Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:06 pm

I'm at a crossroads. I did the flagyl with zyrtec and albuterol. I'm doing the vanco 1 a day with 2 zyrtec, albuterol, prednisone, and an EpiPen close by. I thought the doctor my insurance company set me up with was a gastro, turns out hes a general practitioner. I only found out because I called and asked the office why would he put me in with another specialist if he is one. Good lord, they must think I'm idiot. I feel like one because I'm just not thinking straight. Everything is a messy mess.
My GI consult for colonoscopy was supposed to be today but they rescheduled til next Friday. The nausea and WD and weakness is overbearing. I move from couch to commode. That's it. Went to hospital twice for fluids and potassium and allergic reactions.
My dad wants to take me to hospital today but I feel like it's a waste of time.. They give you meds and rush you out the door because of covid and I know I'm not dying because besides a few low grade fevers , I dont have a high temperature.
How am I supposed to wait til next Friday?
I had this 15 years ago and dont recall it being so bad. Of course I was in my 30s and now I'm in my 50s.
Thank you for listening.

Oh yea. To top it off. The doctor called and said my urine culture came back positive and start levaquin. Sure. I'll pick that up right away. NOT.

I am so sorry you are going through all this. Not sure why they have not started you on Dificid if the D has continued on Vanco.

Is it possible to call back the GI's office and let them know you are really ill to see if they can get you in sooner than next friday?

Maybe a phone visit? If you can get the nurse of the phone and explain it may help. It sounds like you have a consult for colonoscopy but you still have CDIFF? Generally they wait on that unless they are doing an FMT?

I will say I had CDIFF in 2014/2015 for a year, very hard to treat but when I got it back last year my symptoms were much worse. I saw an ID which worked out much better for me.

Don't hesitate to go to the ER if you become weak and dehydrated, that can be dangerous. If you end up back there, have tehm call in a GI, that is always an option since you have had this for awhile with no improvement.

Wishing you brighter days

Nancy. The first doc I went to prescribed the difficid but my insurance won’t pay for it. I couldn’t get the coupon because I have state run insurance. I called my insurance and they made me an appt with another doc who I thought was a Gastro but no. So he got me into a specialist that was supposed to be today but now next Friday.
Roy. Yes. 1 vanco a day but I’m getting ready to stop it because the hives and wheezing are just too bad. I shouldn’t be taking any but I have no choice right now.

If you have C.Diff one vanco a day will not cure it.
Years of experience by scientists calculate how much of an antibiotic is needed to cure a disease.
Minimum is 125mg vanco 3 or 4 times a day for 10 to 14 days
Each pill is not a dose of vanco.
The dose/treatment of vanco needed is the whole course as directed.
If after 6 days symptoms have not resolved meds are reviewed and that means (usualy) that the strength of each pill is increased to 250 or even 500.
If it's your decision to only take 1 a day your risking severe harm.
If it's your Dr's decision you certainly need a new Dr!
Listen to your dad and go to hospital.

Definitely go see a specialist! Who prescribed that single dose of Vanco per day?? If it was a doctor that has written that prescription you should definitely change that doctor and go to a more knowledgeable one. Or , did you have that full dosage of 125 mg x 4 times per day and you are in tapering now?

Georgina. I’m allergic to it. If you read the post it’s says exactly what’s going on. I didn’t take it last night because I can’t keep up with the hives and wheezing. The new doctor knows I’m taking one a day and hasn’t a clue. He wanted me to start levaquin for a uti. I’m like wth? Louisiana insurance doesn’t give you the option of going from doctor to doctor. I’m stuck til Friday when I see the Gastro specialist.

If you are allergic to vanco then I don't see why he gave you even one pill a day. That does not make sense. He should have switched you to something else. Insurance would likely cover Dificid if you are allergic to vanco. There is also Xifaxan that is used sometimes.

Beth. First doc prescribed me dificid. my insurance will not cover it. Cant get the coupon because my insurance is state run.
They put me on prednisone for the allergic reaction and it's also helping to slow the diarrhea enough that I can keep myself hydrated. So I quit the vanco. Breathing is better already.
No high fevers. Burning from throat to butt tho.
Hospital says as long as it's under control with the steroids and bloodwork relatively normal besides potassium and hemoglobin and hematocrit (sp?) I'm good til Friday.
So I wait. And pray. Lol.

Looking at your posts from 2008 you were on many courses of vanco including a taper starting with 250mg 4x a day.
It's very unlikely you are allergic to vanco.
Hopefully your health improved since you posted in 2008 because the amount of other antibiotics you were on at that time certainly contributed to your past C.Diff.
With luck the Dr your seeing Friday reassess your situation and can arrange a test to see if your allergic to vanco (ask them to do that test).
Eliminating vanco just because you "think" your allergic to it is wrong.
One day you might need vanco for a serious life threatening infection but not be given it because your medical notes wrongly show "allergic"
Your c. Diff symptoms are resolving so the Dr on Friday might say the best treatment is NO treatment.

Roy. Well. Before prednisone I was going 20+ times a day. With prednisone I’m going 10+ times a day.
15 years ago I was pregnant when I got it. And had it a very long time before I was diagnosed. I had diarrhea, nausea, tenderness, and headaches and kept telling the obgyn and she kept asking me if I left the country. I kept saying no. From what I recall, they finally diagnosed in hosp because one night I woke up and couldn’t move my arms and legs and had chest pain. My MIL brought me to hospital and I had almost zero potassium. It was a bumpy road. I Was on many antibiotics and vanco. I was getting hives back then, but no breathing issues. My daughter was born 6 weeks early and I couldn’t hold her because I had c diff. She was in NICU for 7 seven days. But everything worked out. I had Gastro and infectious disease who were wonderful. They no longer practice. I’m not reading my old posts because I don’t want to scare myself.
The hospital doctor said it was vanco as he handed me my prescription for prednisone and epipen.
No more vanco and everything is improving hive and breathing wise.
I’m following doctors orders. That’s it.

If you are allergic to vanco that could have been giving you the D too. An allergic reaction I was told, gives an inflammatory response and that response is manifested through hives or a rash on the outside of your body, but it still can inflame the stomach and the rest of the GI tract. It happened to me with penicillin. If that is the case, then the prednisone will calm the inflammatory response and help you and being off the offending antibiotic should work too. See how things are by Friday. Write everything down so you don't forget to tell the GI anything and also write your questions. I find when I do that it is better because I always tend to forget something. I'm glad you are doing a little better.

Beth. That would be awesome! I’m dealing with the 10 WD a day very well. With less hives and being able to breathe, I’m feeling much better. My stomach hurts a tad bit less. I’m praying that the short flagyl dose and short vanco dose and prednisone did something. The blood is gone so that’s a bonus. I don’t think my body can handle any more medications at this time. I’m able to drive the kids to school this morning, something I couldn’t do the past few weeks. Thank you lord.
