Like anyone who's experienced a C. Diff infection, I've been curious about probiotics. I know many swear by them or by a specific type. My impression is that most medical professionals consider probiotics to have unproven value, but to be harmless.....possibly even helpful, if the patient believes in them.
Within the US, unless a probiotic is advertised as being for disease treatment or states that it reduces a particular health risk, they are considered dietary supplements and don't require FDA review.
Interestingly, this article notes a rather small-scale 2018 Israeli study that reported decreased recovery among patients using a common probiotic:

For now I'm sticking with the occasional serving of live culture-type yoghurt....

Interesting article on probiotic use after antibiotics
Female, late 60s. Had outpatient knee replacement January 2021. Besides antibiotics during surgery, took surgeon-prescribed clindamycin for three days. Flattened by C Diff four weeks post-surgery. 14 days of vancomycin.

Thx for posting the article. Probiotics are an individual choice. They appear to help some but not others.
Feel better.

Re: Interesting article on probiotic use after antibiotics
Thanks for sharing! Opinions about probiotics always seem to be mixed.
When I first saw an Infectious Disease specialist and his intern I thought they would both be huge proponents of probiotics. But instead they were just like, "if you feel like they help, then great, keeping taking them. No harm done." But they certainly didn't seem to have strong feelings about them one way or another and they did note that the evidence is limited.
So yeah, just do whatever you feel is beneficial for your body. You know it best.

32 y/o female. Got C. diff in Feb. 2020. Prescribed Flagyl (10 days), then Flagyl again (4 days), then Vanco (10 days), then Dificid (10 days), then Dificid again (10 days), then a Vanco taper (5 wks), then a Dificid taper (2 mths) and finally recovered.
