Having hard time after FMT

Postby Ali-Mar » Wed Jul 15, 2020 9:06 am

I had my FMT 22 hours ago, held it for 9 hours. But now, Looks looks like I am falling a part. I had 5 watery/liquid bowels in last 10 hour, pure liquids :-(( . And my bowels are making so much noise that u can hear it cross the hall. I had my last drink of prep solution 22 hours ago. What is happing to me? Why so much noise and so much liquid BM , similar to when I was drinking prep, but prep didn’t make so much noise. I feel I am in trouble . Will call dr office when they stated there day. But in the mean time I need help!

I'm really sorry you're having a rough time right now. I did read that D is common after FMT and can last for a few days. I hope it subsides soon.

It's not unusual for your gut to object for a few days after drinking what can only be described as colonic napalm!
Then theres the additional insult of sedation and not to mention a few feet of firehose being shoved up where the sun dont shine with a totaly unnatural infusion of a stranger's poop being put into you!
Hopefully it will be worth it but it takes time to work.
NOT instant because it's like sowing seeds on bare dirt.
Now it has to grow.

The prep is not fully eliminated , it takes 72 hours,or more, for the prep to come out , depends on the amount of drugs they gave to sedate you . Also , i already told you in another post to expect a few rough days until the gut adjusts with your new bacteria.
Last year i had two surgeries (two days in a row) one to excize endometriosis from my bowel , second (not planed) because i was internal bleeding. For the surgery i was prepped with the laxative prep that you have taken for your FMT . One day after my second surgery i regained my intestinal transit and all my stools were liquid , but i wasn't scared because i knew that is a lot of laxative inside my gut , couldn't even pass gas , i had to sit on the toilet to pass gas because liquid would also come out. After that i had my first normal BM.
I also had colonoscopy FMT in august 2018 and even though my CDiff tests were negative i had lots and lots of D for the first 2 weeks , needed imodium to be able to leave the house and stay at work.

Thank Roy, I hope so, I am just worried about so much liquid BM and the constant loud noise of my gut. It has been 24 hours since I had my last prep solution drink.

You might also soon have a few days of no BM.
Dr should have told you that this is all "normal" after such an invasive procedure.

Thanks Roy, Dr didn’t tell me anything, unfortunately I didn’t event see the doctor after the procedure. I saw her for 1 min before the sedation, as she was setting up machines, we didn’t talk as I assumed I will see her after procedure.

It is very comforting to know, it is part of the FMT recovery process! Thanks

I talked to the Dr on call, and he said, my dr didn’t suction the prep solution during colonoscopy, and that is why I am having so many liquid BM

I have never heard that one before!
Sounds like the Dr just made something up instead of saying "I dont know".
Read Georginas post, it's good advice.

Thanks Georgina, it make sense, my dr did NOT tell me what to expect and i had a regular colonoscopy in 2016, it was not like, this. I had two liquids bowels after the colonoscopy on the same day, but next day I was back to regular bowel. I didnt have any infection of underlying GI issues at that time,

Remember that when they put in the FMT, that is liquid, not solid. You can't expect that to come out solid. I had the same thing after FMT. After colonoscopy, even before c diff, it took a few days for D to stop.

No bm in last 36 hours nice the last liquid bm, as Roy predicted, Good to know it is part of the recovery after FMT.. keeping my fingers crossed the DR believes the FMT has 92% success rate

That is very good Ali . Remember , your D might happen again in early recovery , so do not panic. Keep a bland diet , or you can actually start he FODMAP diet ,it helps.

Besides being loaded up like a cream filled donut, how do you feel all things considered? Do you see light at the end of the tunnel here?
