“Using data from a commercial insurance claims database, the researchers found that the incidence of C difficile infection (CDI) among individuals living with a family member who had CDI was more than 12 times greater than the incidence in those without prior family exposure”

Re: household exposure may increase C difficile risk
This is actually very encouraging. Based on this study only 0.48% of the cases were suspected to have occurred from household exposure. That's less than half a percent. That is far lower than I expected. Hopefully this can help ease some of the anxiety that so many people experience regarding transmitting c. diff to household members.

Bobbie posted the article in Media reports the other day. I've been on this board for quite a few years and it is rare for another family member to catch c diff. It has happened, but not often.

The only proof I have is that when I had it, my son went on an AB for a dental issue...of course. He didn’t catch it. But he was also 19 at the time with a fantastic immune system.

I had it multiple times and my husband never got it, even when he was on antibiotics. He used my bathroom and we sleep in the same bed and I never washed my clothes separately.
