Relapse or a bad day?

Postby Ali-Mar » Thu Jun 18, 2020 8:42 pm

I am still on Dificid taper taking 1 pill every other day, the last one I took was Tuesday night... and taking one tonight.
I have D today 3 BM mushy, but no mucus. I Haven’t had D in a long while. Normally my IBS symptoms are abdominal pain and discomfort.

I have been on a bland diet for the last 4.5 months since I contracted C-Diff. And no dairy, except yesterday, I had one glass of organic Lifeway kafir mike for the first time yesterday at 2:00 PM, and today around 20 hours later, I started having severe cramps the D...
My question is, does dairy cause D? Or it is a relapse...
If it is dairy, why 20 hours later, I thought if it food intolerance, it will cause issues much faster, like a few hours after eating or drinking?

Just my own experience with Kefir, I did not tolerate it at all last time I had CDIFF in 2014/15. I tried twice, 2 different kinds and got terrible D with both so I gave up on it.

The Post IBS I have now from my recent CDIFF is all over the place. I have had D which always scares me, but then it often changes to C. Recovery can be that way. I would only be concerned if I had several bouts of D for a few days.

You are still completing the taper. Diet for me is everything right now, I am still eating a very bland diet and I am now 6 weeks post Dificid taper.

I would guess it was the Kefir, just an opinion

I too had issues with kefir/yogurt since 2015. A spoonful will give me bloating and gas , more then a spoonful will send me straight to the toilet (for several times).

Thanks, Nanci and Georgina, it makes sense, I thought it is kefir, but since the d and cramping started so much later (20 hours) after I had the kefir, it got me worried that it might not be the kefir. I am still having issues, will see if I get better tomorrow.

A whole glass of kefir is a lot, especially if you have not had it before. My GI told me that he does not tolerate kefir and he has never had c diff. If you try something new, just try a small amount first to see how you tolerate it.

Yep its the kefir. I can not do more than 1/3 cup. 1/4 cup is my magic. I am still all over thr place 4 months out. Yesterday was my worst day in like 2 months. Recovery is so confusing.

A couple of days without a BM is not C!
It's normal.

Spike,
Yes, recovery can be as stressful as the initial infection. See the Three Day Rule for a yardstick. Not medical but a "rule of thumb."

Hang in there.
