clindamycin cream for a skin rash?

Postby Ali-Mar » Fri May 15, 2020 10:10 pm

I have rx for clindamycin cream for a skin rash. I am currently on Dificid taper. Is it safe to use the cream?
Does the antibiotic cream and antibiotic injections affect the gut flora ?

clindamycin cream can cause c.diff, it says so on the pack!
Injections are just as likely to cause c.diff as pills are.

Clindamycin (in pill form) caused my c.diff. I would do anything I could to avoid it, if possible.

Thank you Roy and Poppy,
Will just ignore the rash for now, and ask my dermatologist for a different med for the groin rash if there is one, if not, I will just live with the rash instead of taking the chance

Is it jock itch? If it is, then it's fungal, not bacterial, and clindamycin certainly wouldn't be necessary. But I'm not a doctor.

No ,it is not the fungal, the Jock Itch.. It is bacteria, I was told, It looks like pink dot when the doctor puts the UV light on the rash, but it looks exactingly like jock itch without the light. The rx is Clindamycin phosphate 1% solution , the same one teens use it on their face for acne.

With your c.diff history I really think you should avoid clindamycin. Could you ask your doctor for an alternative treatment?

yes, absolutely, I will ask for other types of med. there is a antibacterial cleanser that contains some bleach that the same dr suggest to use, it is CLn® SportWash.

Agree 100&, I absolutely won't take any chance using Clindamycin cream, even if I have to live this the groin rash for rest of my life. The rash is in small area ..

I would definitely not use the clindamycin. I used a topical lotion for acne before I ever had c diff and it gave me D. I stopped and the D stopped. Right before I got c diff, I used the Cleocin vaginal cream and got c diff. There are other potent antibiotic ointments. I have used Mupirocin that is even for MRSA and I have not had a problem. there is also erythromycin that works for many skin problems. Check with your doctor.

Agree , Clindamycin is not safe in ANY form. There are several other choices to consider.
