I finished my Vanco taper on Saturday. Tuesday I started having the noisy grumbling abdomen. This morning I had blood in my stool. Still formed but there was blood. I’ve also had a ridiculous amount of gas and bloating the past few days. This is how it all started last fall. So of course, I’m scared to death. And I don’t want to go to the doctor with everything else going on in this messed up world right now.
The taper has been amazing. As soon as I started weaning off the Vanco my body felt better than it had in months and my BMs normalized quickly. I had not one inkling that it wouldn’t work this time. Until I finished.
How long do I give it before I should start to freak more and break down and call the Dr?

Re: Taper done, now relapse?
Did you have hemmis during the initial episode? Are you taking probiotics? I had blood as well, actually dripping afterwards and it subsided which I’m sure was the trauma caused to my insides. I also had the grumbling gut but was also taking way to many probiotics and eating way to many probiotic rich foods. Also my GI said that even though the meds killed off the active infection, that my flora was fighting a war trying to win the battle so not to overthink the stomach noise.

Re: Taper done, now relapse?
I had internal hemmis a few years ago, but none that I know of this time. Definitely none externally. I had to stop the probiotics a month ago because they were making things worse and I couldn’t keep any food down. When I stopped, The nausea disappeared immediately.
I do have enough Vanco left to do another 10 day treatment and taper. I’m thinking I should hold off on that for now. I don’t want to call my Dr because as soon as he hears blood he will want to do a colonoscopy and I am NOT going in for that right now. No way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks! And the blood isn’t horrible, but enough that it was noticeable along with some mucus.
Fingers crossed it is all just healing!!!!!

The best advice I can give is to compare what your going through to how you were that caused you to seek medical advice. There was several times in the beginning I was sure it was a relapse. My symptoms were 30 times a day with a fever, pounding heart and just general feeling of death. After I completed flagyl, I felt like hell but never went back to where I was.
