Root Canal: Having tooth packed with antibiotics. To fear or not?

Postby Kelibug » Sun Sep 01, 2019 3:18 pm

I’m having a root canal done on Tuesday. The endodontist will be packing the tooth with 3 antibiotics, one is doxycycline, one is Clindamycin, and I cannot remember the other one. He knows about my c diff history, almost 3 years out, and says the antibiotics that he is putting in my tooth are not systemic and won’t cause my GI tract any harm. Is this accurate?Has anyone had this done, and what was your outcome?

I would say absolutely not to clindamycin regardless of it not being systemic but that’s just my opinion.

I agree about the clindamycin. I would ask if there is another antibiotic that could be used in its place. I used topical clindamycin on my scalf when I was younger (before c diff) and got D. Doctor said to stop it and the D stopped. I only used a small amount.
