Help?!?! UTI while on vanco

Postby Mmm » Sat Aug 31, 2019 4:47 am

Help! Please! Being currently treated for c diff #3 with + stool on vanco. I know vanco can cause UTI symptoms however #3 came about because of a kidney stone and UTI thank appears to be coming back today - I don’t know where to turn or what to do.

I am just now finally not living in the bathroom only to be back in the bathroom for urinary issues. I WILL NOT go to the ER or any other doc, they’re the reason I’m in the mess anyways (because of Bactrim).

Does anyone know if macrobid or gentamicin will be better. Of course it’s the weekend again. My GI appt is 5 days away but I am going to call the Gi doc instead. Have him order a lab and work it out. I pray it’s only from vanco but I’m caught in a cycle I feel.

Ask for a culture to identify the type of organism causing the UTI. That's the best way to make sure that an antibiotic, if prescribed, will be effective against the UTI. The fewer rounds of antibiotics that are used to treat the UTI the better -- so, rather than requesting macrobid vs. gentamicin (or something else), get the culture.
If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

D Mannose powder really helps with UTI's if it is caused by E. coli bacteria. D-mannose is effective because it attaches to E. coli bacteria, causing them to stick to each other and preventing them from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract.

The culture came back. It is positive for E. coli. The doc (it’s my GI keep in mind) wanted to put me on Bactrim until I reminded him that’s what caused cdiff #3.

He deliberated a bit and then put me on macrobid. I’m scared and frustrated again. This is my third UTI (one started with a kidney stone and they tell me I have bilateral stones still) in two months.

I’m still on vanco. I am going to stay in vanco I think while on macrobid. I see doc in 4 days. I think I’ll
Know by then.
