IBGuard
Has anyone taken IBGuard for their ibs symptoms? My doctor told me I could try it because my ibs has been rough the last couple of weeks. However, I’ve been reading that peppermint is an antibacterial. I took it twice one day and it seemed to help my symptoms but I do not want it to cause a relapse with it’s antibacterial affects. Does anyone take this or know if it’s safe to take? I trust my doctor but I’d be reassuring to know others have taken it as well! Any advice would be helpful!

Re: IBGuard
I took heathers tummy tamers at first and had a burning stomach. I think it had more to do with my lining being raw and the peppermint than it had to do with the product itself. My doc recommended pepto for bad days which was a god sent.

Thanks for your reply. I do take pesto bismol on my bad days and usually it helps. I think the iBGuard helps as well and the peppermint does not seem to bother me. My question was can the peppermint cause a relapse because of its antibacterial effects?

Re: IBGuard
Maybe someone with more knowledge than myself can chime in, but I don’t recall anyone relapsing from peppermint and I’ve read of many using IB guard afterwards for relief. My wife is an herbalist freak and takes oil of oregano which is way stronger than peppermint, and I would think that she was exposed when I had it yet she’s never been diagnosed.

Re: IBGuard
IBgard will not cause a relapse. And it's not an "antibacterial." According to Healio, a GI journal: "IBgard (IM HealthScience) is an over-the-counter medical food product that delivers purified peppermint oil to the small intestine using site specific targeting technology. Its principal component, l-Menthol, is believed to work by “exerting anti-inflammatory, smooth muscle relaxation, and anti-nociceptive effects."
If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm
