Can Zoloft cause a relapse?

Postby Mike555 » Thu Jun 20, 2019 11:09 am

Hi everyone my name is Mike and I’ve been C diff free for over 3 years but just recently started on Zoloft and after 5 days I started getting bad cramping and diarrhea so I stoped it and I’m still getting the bad cramping and diarrhea. My question is does Zoloft destroy gut flora and could it cause a relapse?

It wont cause a relapse but it can cause "seratonin syndrome" and diarrhea is one af the symptoms.
You should ask your Dr for advice.

If you "need" something like zoloft you definatly must keep trying untill you find a drug that suits you.
Dont tough it out.

To be honest I never had any problems growing up it’s really only been since I became very sick with c diff and ever since I have had very bad health anxiety, also I’ve developed muscle twitching all over my body for about 2 months mainly in my calf’s and legs tho. I’ve seen 3 Drs a neurologist and had tons of blood work and all saying it’s from stress. Has anyone else ever dealt with this I was worried that the 8 months I was on and off of vancomycin May of caused it. I also take .5mg of Ativan daily.

One of the most common side effects of Zoloft is that it gives D. Some people i know are that have chronic constipation are using Zoloft not only to keep their anxiety under control but also for transit.

Zoloft has a half-life of about one day. That means that for every day that passes without taking the medication, the level in the blood falls by 50 percent. After one day, the level is reduced to 50 percent of the original level, after two days to 25 percent, after three days to 12.5 percent, and so on.
It takes a while to fully recover from side effects so if it IS the zoloft then a week might not be unusual.

I tried Zoloft after the C. diff; it made me have worse anxiety, and gave me D :-/ I switched over to lexapro and it has helped with the left over anxiety from the infection. Good luck!

There are a lot of meds in that same class that are just different enough that they don’t necessarily cause the same side effects. OCmamma is right- Lexapro is known to address anxiety as well as depression so that is one of several options. Your dr should know of other meds that might help you.

C diff is an anxiety ridden disease - the uncertainty involved in its diagnosis, treatment , and prevention is tremendous. Many of us develop "a case of nerves." You are not alone. The meds used in treatment can also cause similar problems. Catch 22.

Best of luck to,you. Keep posting

Were you posting here using a different name between January 2016 and December 2018?
