IV antibiotic- now worried
Had to have some pretty intense oral surgery today to remove fragments of teeth and tissue that resulted from a previous oral surgery 9 years ago. The dr initially told me he would only have me do an antibiotic rinse with my history but after he got in there he was concerned with how deep it was and insisted I have a single dose before I left. I really didn’t want to take the pill so he said I could do an IV dose which would be less likely to cause any harm. I am doubling up on kefir and my s boullardii as well as another probiotic and will do so for quite some time. Fingers crossed as I have been cdiff free since October.

I don't know that an IV dose would be any less (or any more) risky than oral medication. That said, your chances of getting C. diff from a single dose are probably low. Do you know which antibiotic he gave you?
Just saw that you've posted this concern in another (older) thread as well. Please stick to one thread per topic; it's too confusing otherwise.

If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

He said it was a cephalosporin. It might have been cefazolin on the bottle? The nurse called it Keflex, though. I guess I am trying to convince myself that if I didn’t do the one dose and I got an infection after I would have to take antibiotics a lot longer and probably stronger.
