Post c. Diff colonoscopy

Postby Sad2017 » Fri Mar 15, 2019 12:16 pm

Hi everyone, I haven't been on in quite awhile mainly due to the advice given to me by my therapist being worried it would cause a flare in my health anxiety. I am now a fairly healthy 38 y/o woman who had a case of c. Diff back in May 2017 was in the hospital and treated with flagyl 1 week after being discharged and finishing flagyl my symptoms returned my doctor then prescribed dificid, I did a 10 day course and knock on wood have been doing fairly well since. But lately I have had some issues with my bm's and having mucus in them, only on occasion, no pain, no diarrhea. My primary dr wants to refer me to a GI for a possible colonoscopy since colon cancer does run in some family members. May will be 2 full years since I contracted c. Diff but I am freaking out at the thought of doing a colonoscopy and having a relapse. Has anyone out there been treated and recovered and had to do a colonoscopy and what outcome did you have? Trying to remain calm and rational about things but am also a little nervous because you all know how c. Diff messes with our heads!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I had a colonoscopy done in January about 4 weeks after finishing antibiotics for C Diff. So far I've been alright (the colonoscopy has flared up my IBS though). If I survived being 4 weeks out, I'm sure you'll do fine being 2 years out ;)

I had a colonoscopy a bit less than a year after recovering from c diff and did not relapse. I have had another since then and 6 years later am still c diff free.

I've also had colonoscopy after C. diff without relapse. I don't think the procedure, unpleasant though it is in its own right, has any relationship to C. diff.
If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

Thank you everyone, you all are wonderful! It's reassuring knowing that others have done well and it gives me hope! It is completely crazy how much this has caused anxiety in myself and the way I over analyze every little thing!

I've had colonoscopy about a month after completed cdiff treatment, it didn't cause any problems, definately not a relapse.
I went to a famous specialist in Germany and I've asked him before the procedure whether colonoscopy increases the risk of relapse and he said no, it doesn't change the bacterial composition, and the bacteria multiply every 20 minutes anyhow, so whatever went out recovers very fast afterwards.

That's what he told me, and everything was ok.
