You need a new Dr.
Lomatil is dangerous to someone with c.diff and should NEVER be used.
It can cause severe problems. (I will explain if you want me to).

If your D persists you MUST go back to your Dr and ask for the dose of vanco to be revised.
Watch out for becoming dehydrated, If your urine output decreases let your Dr know.
If your Dr does not listen to you go to ER.
In fact unless you see an improvement quickly ER is something you seriously need to consider.

Thanks Roy....I get the feeling here that the docs don't seem to know what
to do about this issue, at least my family doc, he has stalled forever in giving
me any sort of meds even tho I've had the "d' for months and months....I do have
the gut doc app't on 10th of october, so maybe he will do more....also the E.R. won't
do a thing if I just walk in and tell them i have c diff, in fact all they did for
diverticulitis was give me an antibiotic and send me home, no other instructions no
pain meds or anything.....I've printed out the forms for the $$$$dificid med and
will talke to gut doc about that pill....just doing the best i can for now....thanks..don

If you go to ER and tell them you have c.diff that's not responding to meds they will definatly help you.
They will also freak out and see you quickly!
You mention pain meds, most of them actually make gut pain worse not better!
Advil, any NSAID or anything related to it can cause irritation or even severe internal bleeding.

Roy a question please....is there another anti diahreaha medicine I should ask
for since you say the Lomotil is not safe??? Just something to slow things down
a bit?? I've had 8 trips to the throne this morning, an my doc is not in today...going
to go over tomorrow to see any doc that is there to see if they can do anything...I"m
wondering tho if I'm just being too impatient, as I see others stories where they
have suffered much, much longer than I.....But I'm just really tired and depressed
about the damn mess.....ah well....later......don

No anti D meds of any kind should be used if you have c.diff.
C.diff produces toxins that damage your colon.
The body defends itself by expressing water into your colon and pushing the toxins out as quick as possible, That's D.
If you take anything to stop the D the toxins remain inside you and build up.
End result can be sepsis and you could lose your colon or Die.
Better to be on the throne than to have a bag strapped to your leg!
Nature knows best.

With symptoms like that you really must go to ER.
Believe me, I know what can happen.
My Mother died of this.
Not wanting to frighten you but at your tender age you need to keep on top of this.
Your Dr should increase your vanco and not hesitate about doing it.

I actually took Peptp Bismol and it was ok'd by my doctor. Lomotil was not. Pepto will not stop c diffcile or give you C unless you take big amounts, but a little can take the edge off. I would ask for the vanco increase as Roy suggested and also check about the Pepto with your doctor - maybe the Gi. The one who told you Lomotil was okay would not be a good one to ask. Even Imodium is not as strong as Lomotil, but I wouldn't take that either.

Welp, I've had NO joy this past week...fam doc won't increase anti biotic, still got
app't tuesday at gut dr's but I think they have me seeing the nurse...E.R. said I
need to follow fam doc orders....still making many many throne runs every
morning, no improvement at all....so what the heck....will ask gut doc if he'll
put me on the high priced med to see if that helps....otherwise all is good !!!!!

Sorry you have had no improvement, they need to change your medication now. Ask for Dificid, if not covered by insurance go to the Dificid page and apply.
Even if you see the GI's Nurse or PA, they need to move you on to the next step

Good luck at your Appt!

How would a person know if the "d" was being caused by difficile and not caused
by the antibiotic itself???? Have not seen the gut doc yet, not till nov 10th...only
have 3 trip in a.m. to the throne usually now, so maybe I'm crazy, but wonder
why it changed so much...thanks don

Hawkeye, where do you live? I don’t want to go there!!
Did you explain to the GI dr your age and how long you have had c diff and d and that vancomycin has not cured you? And asked for a sooner emergency appointment because of that?

Please make sure you continue to drink a lot of fluids as was suggested. And maybe the increased vanco is helping. I hope so.

Hi Ril, I live in small missouri town, right north of kansas city...dunno why but doc's
don't seem to worry much about this problem....g.i. doc very busy I guess so have
not been able to get in to see him yet...family m.d. is just a pill pusher, runs thru
couple dozen people an hour to get $$$....it was me who suggested lab tests, as
he didn't seemed to concerned about the time I spent on the throne....ah well...
I'll live thru it or die trying.....don
