C diff antibodies

Postby Sez123** » Wed Jul 04, 2018 2:40 am

Hi all

This maybe a silly question given the recurrence rate but I was wondering once you have had the c diff activated in your system and by God’s grace manage to beat it. Does this mean your body has developed antibodies/immunity against it??

Much like say chicken pox. Once you have it you essentially are immune to it.
Is it like that with c diff??

I’m aware that a rogue spore can come alive if antibiotics are used etc but was just wondering those who have been cured HOW have you been cured

Yes
That's the reason a vaccine is possible!
The immune system learns not to react to c.diff toxins.
Same as tetanus (another clostridia) we still get the bug but it does not cause disease.
They still test positive though and that's why guidlines insist that tests are not done unless the patients symptoms indicate c.diff.
Some people could eat a bucket full of c.diff and not become sick.
Also its thought that the babies colonized in the first years of life will have varying degrees of immunity when they grow older.
The problem is that future antibiotic use can alter that natural immunity.

People that recover with the least amount of treatment seem to have stronger immunity to future infection.

Hate to tell you this but once you have chicken pox you have the live virus for life!
It lives inside you and your its host
It CAN come back anytime as shingles.

Great to know Roy
It’s a relief knowing our bodies can handle such a stubborn little bug

Going forward I assume it’s to eat daily doses of fermented foods and probiotics as tolerated ti keep them in check ..

Just to add to what Roy said - there are also many strains of c difficile. You may have some immunity to the one you had, but could pick up a different strain.
