External hemorrhoids...help

Postby Amb66 » Mon Jun 18, 2018 2:10 pm

Hi so I was really excited because I’m in recovery and after changing probiotics my BMs were becoming much firmer. But I fear I spent too much time on the toilet because I now have an external hemorrhoid. No blood, just sore, burns and a lump. Does anyone have any home remedies or things that worked for them? Also how long does it usually take to go away? I’m a healthy 24 year old and am drinking lots of water. Please help, this is so awkward. Thank you!

Yes, I know remedy, my husband had a very bad case of hemorrhoids with cdiff, sitz bath with warm wather and vinegar. Also go to the farmacy and buy prep h.hemorrhoid . You can ask your physician to give you a prescription it will help a lot.

Hemorrhoids are THE WORST. They're such a minor medical condition but they cause sooooo much pain. I had a bout of chronic hemorrhoids over a period of 6-8 months as a result of having to take long term NSAIDs and they caused bad constipation. I even had thrombosed ones.

Ultimately the only thing that cured me was rubber band ligation. I had three of the procedures and have been 100% fine since. I'm not sure that's an option for external hemorrhoids but worth seeing a GI to see if there are any more aggressive options for treatment. The first time, I put it off for weeks because I was so self conscious about her probing my rectum but it was no big deal (took like 45 seconds) and by the third procedure several months later we were having casual conversation while she did the deed.

Another option is to get prescription strength lidocaine lotion to rub on it. I tried that and it helped but it wasn't as good as the ligation. Ligation was literally instant cure, at least in my case. Lidocaine might work better on external H's, it's a bit tricky to get it on the internal ones like I had.

Dr whom I saw (colorectal specialist) recommended an OTC baby diaper-rash cream such as Desitin; said it was safer than steroid-based creams. Preparation H, which another poster mentioned, is also OTC; no script needed. Warm-water sitz bath can sometimes help with discomfort, but I'd leave out the vinegar, which is acidic so could be irritating and contributes nothing to relief as far as I can tell.
If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm
