Relapse and Appendicitis

Postby mjcom » Mon Jun 04, 2018 8:30 pm

I was first diagnosed in the fall of 2017 following a 6 month marathon of some pretty strong antibiotics to treat chronic sinusitis. After two rounds of treatment, I was testing negative. In the months that followed I continued to experience GO issues, which I initially believed were IBS. I eventually went to a specialist a few weeks ago, who sent in a full GI panel. A few days later I was in the ER with acute appendicitis, and two days after that I got the call that my c. diff was back. I had the worst semester of my college career this spring, failing a class I know I would have aced had I not been struggling so much with my health. I’m getting so tired and I feel like I’m not getting answers fast enough. I’ve read medical journals exploring appendicitis as an extracolonic manifestation of c. Diff and I feel it’s too much of a coincidence to dismiss. I’m wrecked with anxiety, wondering which of my intestines will fail next. Today, as I’m going through a pretty excruciating flare up, I’m feeling really defeated. I just need to know I’m not alone.

What were you given to treat the c difficile? If you haven't tried Dificid, it would be good to talk to your doctor about it. I understand your frustration. C difficile has ruined many people's plans and lives. Was your appendix removed?

beth22: I did about three weeks of Vanco. Before, I did Flagyl and then Vanco. My appendix was removed, thankfully it didn’t burst. I almost didn’t go to the ER because I thought it was my colon pain like usual. I’m so glad I did. I’m on my third day of really bad flare ups since finishing the Vanco so I need to call my GI. I’m just so fed up with this.

If your doctor wants you to treat, ask about Dificid. Many have had better luck with that than with vanco.
