Hello, my 1st post around here, and am reading a lot of great information around the forum :)
Am a male and have 25 years.
Well, my story started three years before, where I had a periodic bleeding period. Doctors said it was hemorrhoids, and even did a sigmoidoscopy to rule out other problems. Everything came clean and I was fine.
Last year, in April, I had bloody diarrhea, and got an appointment with the doc only 1 month after. In between that wait the bloody diarrhea stopped, and the doctor said you might have had c.diff, because I had took Clavamox antibiotic. Didn't do any tests and sent me home again. Before meeting the doc specialist, I had a consult in my country where I had a 5 day dose of flagyl that I believe put C.diff away for that time
Coming to this year, I began to have pressure pain in my left abdominal side, it almost felt like something was going to explode in there because of the gas that was building up. I would wake up in the middle of the night with chills and excrutinizing pain there, and would relieve when I went to toilet. At this point I had mucus, blood, and liquid stool twice or thrice a day.
Went again to the doctor, and he told me to do a colonoscopy. After one week, I dd the colonoscopy.
The doctor told me that my whole large bowel was in a severe stage, and he could't believe I had not many symptoms. He told he needed to verify if I was C.diff positive before giving any meds, because it could have a really bad effect on me.
I did it and C.dff positive, so the doc got me in a 14 day Flagyl 400mg course thrice a day. Bad side effects, metalic taste, and a feeling of fatigue and nausea happened, but I finished all of it. The doc had told me to do a sigmoidoscopy after flagyl, and I did and it was better now, the bowel was healing but not everything.
So he put me on Vancomycin 125mg 4 times a day injection but I have to take it orally so I have to prepare the compound solution. No oral tabs in my country unfortunately.
Day 1 of vancomycin and I started having that gas pain in my left abdomen again. Dont have diarrhea since flagyl, but is the pain returning because of the vancomycin?

Hi joseafon and welcome to the site. Please read the first forum for information for new posters.
Vancomycin gave a me a lot of gas and it can also cause looser stools. Give it a couple of days to see if symptoms subside, but if not, call your GI and let him know. If you just had a sigmoidoscopy, that could give you looser stools and gas too. I know after I have had them, I have a lot of trapped gas and I had D for a day or two afterwards. Before c diff, the Fleet's enema I had to do as a prep never bothered me, but not since the c diff. I would think this would be even worse if your colon is already irritated.

Thanks for the heads up Beth22 ! As for the colon inflamed, yes, it was pretty bad but aftrr the dose of flagyl and sigmoidoscopy it looked better for the doc, but he put me on vanco bcause I still had patches in my colon.

Joseafon, Flagyl is no longer suggested to be used for c diff but vancomycin is so hopefully that will work for you in a few days.
You should not need another test with a prep if your symptoms ease up as that will disturb the good flora that you want to build up in your gut.
Ask your dr about when you can add a probiotic like s, boulardii if it is available in your country. It can be taken along with vanco and some believe it may help.

Give the vanco a chance to work. It does take a while. I always tried to take mine with meals.
