Time frame to potentially relapse after antis?!

Hi all

I’m on antis for mastitis. Couldn’t be avoided unfortunately

IF I was to relapse. What time frame am I looking at.

I know it’s a guessing game but this forum would know the usual timeframe it takes... I imagine I’m at the highest risk immediately after the course

2-3 months, are you taking a probiotic?

During antibiotic treatment and the following 2 weeks is the highest risk period for a relapse if your colonised because of a previous infection, but anything up to 3 months (more likely a new infection).
Hand washing minimises the risk of a new infection.

The best approach seems to be to take s boulardi while on the antibiotic, and then take a high quality multistrain one afterwards for several weeks. Also your risk depends on the antibiotic you are taking and if it’s more broad spectrum. Just do everything you can with probiotics and prebiotic foods to promote gut flora health for a couple months. Roy is right also, you need to think about exposure to new infection too and have hygiene practices to protect yourself.

I’m in Australia where there is minimal knowledge of c diff.
My gp says the bacteria is only active for a month past infectin in the gut

I’m thinking that’s outrageously misleading...

I’m on probiotics (100billion multi strain ) plus found some sacchromyses bollardii I’m taking too plus eating loads of probiotic foods eg home made yoghurt, kefir, warm miso , sauerkraut etc

Probably overkill but better to be safe than sorry I guess

It sounds like you’ve got it covered! Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and use a 1:10 solution of bleach to clean.

Ocmama you sound very knowledgable how did you cure of this horrible bacteria?? If I may ask that is :)

I am 14 months out from active C. diff (knock on wood), C. diff is an especially yucky bacteria due to it’s ability to create very hardy spores that can hide out in the gut. So my family will always have to be extremely cautious with taking antibiotics to avoid a future C. diff “flare”.
