New Member- Four Time Recurrent C Diff

Postby barob » Sat Feb 03, 2018 5:21 am

Hello! I am a 28 year old male with underlying inflammatory bowel disease. Approximately five months ago, I developed pseudomembranous colitis related to “c diff”. Despite the multiple rounds of metronidazole and vancomycin, the c diff infection has reoccurred four times. At the beginning of this month, I received my first FMT via pill form. Unfortunately it failed, so I had a second FMT on 01/29/2018. My second FMT, just as the first, was a two-day dose via multiple pills. The day after my first dose, I was very fatigued. I am currently (02/03/2018) experiencing you standard “c diff” symptoms such as: diarrhea, cramping, urgency and occasional blood in stool. But what is standing out to be different to me is the amount of gurgling/noise my stomach is making. At this point, if it reoccurs, I have basically built up a resistance for vancomycin because it no longer clears my symptoms as it did before. I am here seeing what everyone else is doing for similar problems to mine and looking for options. As for everyone else, this infection has taken over my life and I can’t wait for the day to be c diff FREE!!!

Questions:
--Has anyone had failure with FMT via pill form, then when on to have it successful via colonoscopy/enema?

--Has anyone become resistant to vancomycin, then switch to Dificid for better results?

--Has anyone experience diarrhea days after their FMT?

--Does anyone know if c diff is harder to get rid of with underlying IBD?

Current Medication:
--Apriso

The top-down FMTs are not so succesful as the bottom up FMT. Actually for the most stubborn cases of Cdiff some specialists did combo FMTs to cure the patients : top-down , bottom up and followed with pills the next days . I never had a pill FMt but i had the top-down nasogastric delivery and it failed after several weeks.
Also if you feel that Vanco no longer controls your symptoms , the Dificid would be a good choice but in a long course. I personally think that the winning combination in a stubborn Cdiff case would be a long course of Dificid , followed by a FMT (colonoscopy FMT) 48 h after the course is finished.

Hello and Welcome to the site Please read the first thread for all new posters

I don't recall if we have had many posters that have tried the pills, a few years ago I remember one but dont know if it was a success.

We have MANY posters who have had several relapses on Vanco myself included. I was on Vanco a total of 4 months. I then went on Dificid( 10 days) and did relapse.
What DID work for me was a Dificid taper. There are several on the site who have done a 30 day taper, look under CDI.
Post treatment it's been a long road, I though it had returned several times but I can finally say I am CDIFF free.
I am sure others will jump in here
