1 week after Flagyl

Postby Dawnundr » Sun Dec 17, 2017 11:28 pm

I am 63 yrs old , female & posting for the 1st time. Thank you for being here. 1 day in to taking Flagyl, I felt a lot better with problems of discomfort at times. However I've had continuing D. Sometimes not as bad as others but it never clears enough to feel good about. I can go hours without using the restroom but not willing to take an hour long boat ride or return to work. I still get a bit crampy or uncomfortable usually after I eat. I'm taking probiotics, Florastor & Turmeric. So it's now 1 week after taking 10 days of Flagyl. My Doctor told me last week that I could have D for a few weeks after treatment. I demo food and I'm concerned about returning to work. I question whether I should be on Vanco or wait it out. Whether I should be tested this week so I can feel better about returning to work. Whether I should stick with my GP or make an appointment with a Specialist. This is due to Amoxicillin without taking probiotics however I now think this CDIFF goes way back considering my symptoms. How long should I be patient before taking further action? Thanks for any help. I sure would like to feel normal without fear or discomfort.

If the D continues for a few more days, I would ask to be retested. That may put you at peace on whether continued treatment is needed. If your GP can prescribe you Vanco then you can at least continue to be treated with your current GP, if needed. Specialists in my area are booked so it doesn't hurt to ask you GP about referring you to a specialist if continued treatment is needed in the future.

Best of luck.

Hello Dawnundr and welcome to the site. Please read the first thread on Rules for Posting.

If you are still having watery stool 3 or more times/day for at least 3 days in a row, or enough d that you are unable to safely leave your house for long periods, you likely have a recurrence of c diff and should discuss being treated with vanco or Difficid by your dr. If you can get a speedy appt with a GI, saying it is an emergency and/or getting put on a waiting list, I personally would do that....but I would want a follow up with a GI at some point regardless.

Testing this soon after taking Flagyl would probably give an inaccurate result. You should be treated based on symptoms. While you can have irregular and frequent stools during recovery, it depends upon what you are calling d and how you are describing d to your dr as to whether it is a c diff recurrence.

Thanks Frank & Rita. I want to be patient but I don't want to overlook symptoms & end up starting over again. I'm getting out but being cautious. My Doc didn't give much info. I think she didn't want me to panic...ha ha. My Work would like me back as this is the busiest time.... I'm uncomfortable with the "contagious" side of this. Plus I have a houseful of grandchildren. I'm trying to be positive but it does wear me down. Again, thanks for all the information that is available here.

Well, I was patient, did not go on more Flagyl, continue to improve & I'm returning to work today. I have an appt with GI doctor Jan 10th. I feel much better & so thankful for this Forum. I take Florastor, Krill oil, Tumeric & Bifadophylus Flora Force, 1 each with breakfast,1 each after dinner. Maybe this can help others.
