Anyone else have a problem with Inulin aka Chicory Root?

Postby dignan » Mon Sep 18, 2017 9:38 pm

Many "natural" products have these ingredients in them. Essentially it is a sweet form of fiber and it absolutely sets my system off. Due to believing the branding of Kind Bars, and I admit they taste good, I was blaming other foods for some exacerbations.

I have not had a problem with this ingredient per se, but if you read many posts, you will find warnings about developing food intolerances and avoiding fiber and sweets in general.

A few months ago I've tried a teaspoon of inulin powder with my meal . I remember that the meal went straight trough me , never tried it since.

The motility specialist that I see for SIBO told me when I first went there that inulin is a no-no for anyone with small intestinal issues. In fact, most prebiotics are not recommended. A lot of IBS is actually SIBO, so if you have IBS, beware.

That stuff is like poison to me, and I was cured of C diff in 2012.

Very interesting. I do have mild PI IBS now but am now unable to tolerate Kind Bars (which I ate during and after my infection in early 2016).

Here is the craziest thing- I have terrible PI IBS yet can eat Kind bars but cannot tolerate Fiber One bars.
Go figure!
