11 month post vancomycin taper 3 neg test can cdiff return spontaneously?

Postby Soimez » Thu Aug 03, 2017 6:58 pm

Hi everyone I was hoping to do a success story at my 1 year mark but unfortunately today I've been experiencing some bad D..looked like there might of been some mucus but not sure hoping not. I stop taking my sacc boulardi last week but still been keeping up on my bio K and fermented foods. Unfortunately I've been abusing percocets again but just cut down huge cause I need to kick this rotten habit.. anyway my question is can Cdiff just come back or am I starting to withdrawl? Also can coming off percocets alter your gut flora. I haven't been on any antibiotics??

We all have D from time to time post CDIFF for various reasons. If D continues for more tan 3 days, call your GI. Unless you were exposed again, took antibiotics, are on PPI etc....I don't see how it can come back. The issues with the Percocet could cause your system to be off. I would give it some time and if it continues call the GI. My other thought is depending on how much Percocet you have been taking, you may need to be followed by an MD as you decrease the dose. That may be the issue

Take Care

Hi I've been abuseing them for about 7 months and anywhere form 3-6 per day.. I'm a little concerned cause I've had no appetite and I'm getting burning in lower abdominal and rumbling.. I guess I will just have to wait it out.. I have some vancomycin left from my last time but it expires 08/17

I'm so depressed and upset right now if this infection came back I will be very bummed out.. heres the ironic thing I went and dropped my fidoximicin off to the specialist today cause I never thought I would be needing it.. well I'm not a religious man really but to night I will be praying...

Talk with your GI, they will be able to talk with you about the Percocet and the effects on the GI while you are cutting them down. It may also effect your mental health and you may be more worried about the GI change than usual

Percocet is a opiod pain medication, and we all know that opiates are notorius for causing constipation as they slow down the gut. Of course , when you cut back from it after long-term use, you will have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms , D is very common. I don't think that Cdiff has returned after such a long time but, for your peace of mind, you can get tested.

Was it cdiff relapse? Or not?
