Happy to report that my treatment is going well in general. D has continued to be under control and I am eating reasonably well, though little to no appetite. Hoping that once I get off the antx my appetite will come back and I will have more energy.
Wondering the prevalence of neuropathia for people who have been on Flagyl (I am assuming it is the offender…). I have been feeling numbness in my extremities for the last few days, and my right arm/leg went numb last night. Called the doctor and he told me to stop Flagyl and get other tests done to rule out other serious issues (working with internal medecine doctor/neurologist on this), but the more I read about this drug, it seems somewhat prevalent to suffer from nervous issues. Have others experienced tingles and numbness? How quickly did it go back to normal after you stopped taking the meds?

You can look in the search bar for flagyl. I know a lot of people have issues with it, it made me terribly sick after 3 days but no neurological issues.
Your history is a bit more complicated with the infection you had, also on flagyl/Vanco/Ceftin all at the same time. I would work with your Md's and get testing suggested. Everyones case is different and some are more complicated. it's difficult to know where your symptoms are coming from while on 3 medications.
You may consider another opinion with a GI or an ID specialist.
Hope you feel better soon

Re: Flagyl and neuropathy
There's not much chance of beating c.diff if your taking ceftin!
Symptoms might be gone while your on c.diff meds (a mix of flagyl and vanco is not normal) but if it is c.diff it could come roaring back when you stop meds.
Your doing a lot of damage to your good gut flora.
Are you sure the appendix diagnosis was correct?
Could it have been misdiagnosed before they realised you had c.diff and not needed treatment.

Re: Flagyl and neuropathy
Hi Roy
They dx the appencitis/peritonitis first, put me on antibiotics, and then dx the cdiff the next day. My surgeon now thinks I probably had cdiff first and it provoked the appendicitis. The appencitis/peritonitis were dx with a CT scan, so they did see the localized infection. I am on Ceftin for one more day (3 doses) and on Vanco for at least another week beyond that so my treatment is far from over, and I am hoping that once I stop Ceftin I can make more progress on helping my GI. We shall see. I am seeing my ID Doc on Thursday morning.

Re: Flagyl and neuropathy
Flagyl is a crazy antibiotic. Some handle it, other can't. I was diagnosed with Giardia last year and was given flagyl for 16 days. Two days in, my ears started ringing but my Dr. Said flagyl doesn't cause thstvandvto continue. I then started getting pressure type headaches and tingly type feelings in my hands and left foot. Again, Dr said continue to take. I have been off the flagyl for a year now and still experience these issue. I wish I would have done research myself before taking it. Serious side effects are central nervous toxicity, neuropathy...flagyl was also my ticket to c-diff which was undiagnosed for 8 months because Dr said it was PI-IBS due to giardia. It was rough. I hope and pray you get better soon.

Re: Flagyl and neuropathy
We have many posters who complain about the side effects of Flagyl. Your doc sounds like a "keeper." Call him/her. The side effects can be temporary or more permanent.
Feel better.
