Hello everyone,
I was dx'd with C Diff on 2/25 and hospitalized for four days. I took my last Flagyl pill on 3/10.
In the last few days I've started to feel like I have more energy and able to sleep and wake up at a reasonable hour. I'll feel fine for a few hours and then I'll have moments through out the day where I just feel really weak, a bit dizzy and anxious. I did have an issue with BBPV ( ear crystals out of place) sometime last year. My blood pressure is fine. Had MRI on my brain/ear last year and everything was fine.
On Monday I did have to go to the doctor for severe constipation and I'm currently taking Miralax for that. I had no idea constipation could cause so much pain.
What all did everyone feel after completing antibiotics and how long did it take for you to feel 100%. I just had blood work done on Monday and everything came back fine.
Thank you!
How long after C Diff did you feel a 100% well?

It sounds as if you are one of the lucky ones who beat the c difficile with one or two courses of treatment. Most doctors say 6 - 12 months, but for those who have had many relapses it can be longer.

Few people felt better after a month , other needed like 6 months up to a year to go back to normal and some people that had to deal with Cdiff for a long time and had many relapses (including myself) are left with issues for the rest of our lives and we just learn to live and deal with them. Recovery is individual for every patient.

I'm definitely having IBS, but it's manageable.
I really do hope that I beat this first round of Flagyl. I've had normal BMs, just not the color and size they used to be, but working back up to that.
My main complaints are dizziness and fatigue, but based in response that's probably pretty normal.
I just want to be 100% back to my old self. I'm am glad that I'm almost there. I'll try to be more patient. I was really active prior to this, and last year all the symptoms just hit me hard and a dx took 7 months to happen and by then I was bleeding pretty badly from my colon. I'm so glad I didn't listen to the on call doctor and went to the hospital when I did.
Okay, patience, patience. Lots of love and strength to everyone battling this beast.

For me it was 5 to 6 months after testing negative to feel 100% better. On September it will be 2 years since i tested negative.

Flagy is a very harsh drug it made things harder for me. My Gi told me for every month had cdiff it takes 2 to recover. But everyone is different. I start out day an get more fatigued as day goes on. Dizzy spells are better but i get weak. Just a week an half out from fmt so i had much more treatment. Hopefully yours will be improving soon.

Miralax works by increasing water in the stool (osmotic laxative). It basically prevents your colon from reabsorbing water into the body and keeping the water with the stools. Western diets in general lack insoluble fiber - stuff like indigestible plant fiber which are a known laxative and may have benefits for the gut flora inside.
Have you tried metamucil (insoluble fiber) instead?

Cdiffrun, I eat a organic vegan diet. At least twice a week I eat a raw vegan diet. I haven't tried to eat raw yet. Still eating steamed or cooked veggies. 80% of my food I make at home. I've always eaten really clean even before becoming vegan two years ago. Even then I was still eating organic meat. Today is the last day with Miralax and hopefully everything goes back to normal.

Recovery takes time, with one or two rounds we often hear things get back to "normal" in months. Those on treatment longer( for me it was one year and 5 relapses) I am two years out and still have "off" days with IBS. I was also on Dificid for months which I believe caused the IBS to go on this long.
It can take awhile. I have used Miralax on and off, right now I am on a very small dose as I have increased my diet and when I make changes I notice it the most.
Talk with your GI, there are medications for IBS. I was on Levsin Post CDIFF for a few months. Now I take VSL#3 and have stayed on that.
I want to mention Kefir caused me the opposite....it caused C and I was not able to take it. Everyone is different

I hope you found a new doctor. I would struggle to trust one who misdiagnosed C diff for so long that I ended up in the hospital for 4 days! If the C returns I would ask to see a GI.

Re: How long after C Diff did you feel a 100% well?
My symptoms were so random. My PCP sent me to a fast and he just brushed off my bleeding as hemorrhoids. I also let him know about the full pain I was having in my colon. That's what sent me to the gasto to begin with. Finally my PCP had enough and sent me to a colon/rectal specialist. Even after a colonoscopy they didn't find anything other than a tear in the rectum and internal hemorrhoids. The next day I started with severe diarrhea. The doctor was in disbelief, but they treated me very quickly.
The first gasto doc should've done more and I probably wouldn't ended up sick for such a long time and in the hospital.

Re: How long after C Diff did you feel a 100% well?
I am about three months out from c.diff (went through three treatments) and am around 75% back to normal though on some days this is a much lower percentage. Dealing with PI-IBS and have some lingering food intolerances though am starting to be able to have more variety in my diet. Have gained some weight back, most of my energy back, and only have mild cramps/pains usually when my IBS is acting up.

Dana, it can be challenging to get all the nutrition needed with a raw vegan diet. C diff can definitely cause absorption issues as well. Have you had your iron, folate, B12 levels checked?

Cdiffrun, I've never had any nutrition issues with my diet. I only eat raw vegan twice a week and the rest just vegan. I've had all my levels checked quite frequently and the only issue I've ever had is low vitamin D which is back to normal. It is not hard to get all of the proper nutrition needed with a vegan diet.
