As seen in my other post, my vanco taper caused some issues with my ears... I think. I started having a stuffy/full itchy feeling in my ears after day 3 so I stopped on Friday. My hearing is too important to me to risk long term hearing loss. Both the pharmacist and surgeon who have been treating me said it shouldn't be causing these side effects, but when I spoke to the nurse at vanderbilts ID clinic, she ran it by the dr and said they couldn't officially advise me since I'm not their orient yet, but that on a "personal level, if it were me I would stop" is what the dr said. So I did. My surgeon switched me to flagyl on Friday which I have t began taking yet, and since Friday I've felt fine, today I seem to be experiencing the beginning of a flare. And honestly. I'm tired of the antibiotics. They're literally from the devil.
Anyways, last Friday's with my ears bothering my like crazy and me being late to an important suit and tie work event, I noticed something awful. A dormant pilonidal sinus that I've had for about 5 years began oozing blackish purplish thick liquid. I had an immediate melt down for a good 45 minutes praying to God for relief from this. So after speaking with my team of doctors. I now I have to beat c diff, then go back under the knife for an incredibly invasive pilonidal cyst removal. If you don't know what it is, Google it, but not with food. For this surgery I know they're going to have me on a massive concoction of antibiotics.
Needless to say, I'm terrified, I'm depressed, I have lost my motivation to get out of bed at this point. I just filled out FMLA for short term leave, and I'm contacting pilonidal specialists now to get another surgery scheduled which it sounds like I'm going to have to leave the state to get a good Dr who can perform the Bascom Cleft operation.
Anyways guys, this just went from bad to worse for me. And at 27 years old, I'm shocked to be dealing with health issues like this.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Re: Not sure what to do
So sorry to hear this news, S4boost. Just something else for you to worry about. You just need to take a deep breath and deal with one thing at a time. First, get rid of c-diff. Since you had the hearing issues with the vanco, maybe you should discuss dificid over Flagyl as it's a much better drug with a high cure rate. When it comes time for your surgery, speak to your team of doctors and see if you can take c-diff meds while on antibiotics if antibiotics are needed. I know some on this board have taken vanco along with antibiotics. Maybe dificid is an option. You are very young and will recover from all of this. I know right now things are grim, and it's affecting your career and life, but just concentrate on getting well. All of this will eventually be in the past. Stay strong.
