Here is an explanation of how spore germination works

"...Germination of spores is critical to initiate CDI. Bile acids are vital to the germination process. Primary bile acids are produced in the liver and released into the small intestine to assist in digesting fat5. A majority of bile acids are reabsorbed in the small intestine, however a portion are passed into the colon where they undergo biotransformations by intestinal bacteria.5 The normal intestinal microbiota metabolizes primary bile acids through 7α-dehydroxylation and a series of other biochemical transformations.8 This process may be disrupted with antibiotics, producing an increase in primary bile acids and a reduction of secondary bile acids...."
There is fascinating evidence that CDI can not occur if your secondary bile acids are intact. And there is evidence that taking Actigall (Ursodiol) can mitigate relapse or even stop germination until your microbiota is back to normal.
