Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
The cost Will be interesting. I was told by a doctor in the er the last time I was in there that they have a cure for hepatitis c but the cost of treatment is 60,000 dollars. He told me that because he said deficid and vanco are both very expensive and then there is the expense of the fmt. My doctor told me 1200 out of pocket for my fmt. We have really good insurance but we are into our savings now and we are not done yet. I am just ready for a decent response to....when will this be over. I just passed the 6 month point and I am absolutely terrified of getting some bug or illness that requires antibiotics again. I just hope the cure is real.

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
Liquid Vanco changed into oral less expensive. See CDI.
Let's not worry about cost until new meds approved. If you have FMT by colonoscopy, insurance usually pays for scope part. If you have own donor, only big expense is blood work for you and donor. Donor banks more expensive.
One step at a time.

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
But would we be eligible for this as we have had cdiff?
I had high hopes of us being able to get the vaccine and it seems that thought might not be a reality for us.

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
Donor banks such as Open Biome are actually far cheaper than getting your donor tested!

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
OpenBiome charges the doctor about $250 for one container. Doctors can increase the price. I just recently inquired and one facility told me about $300, which seems reasonable as they probably have to pay shipping, so it is pretty much at their cost, just a little more. Another doctor quoted me $500 - $600, so he would definitely be making a profit. And yes, it is cheaper than having your donor tested unless your donor has good insurance and insurance covers most of the tests.

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
C diff is becoming much more prevalent so of course big pharma is going to rush new drugs! Literally two days ago my moms friends daughter and a classmate of mine from high school got c diff with NO risk factors. Of course they called me right away :) Every doc and nurse I see says they are seeing it more and more.

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
I hope big pharma is in a competion and rush to see who develops the best treatment, fast and safe of course. To help us that are currently suffering and that people in the future won't have to endure what we have, mentally and physically, for so long. A friend of mine is a nurse at BloodSource (a blood bank) and she said they just opened a place in Sacramento that is going to do FMTs and make capsules. I looked online and couldn't find any info, but hopefully this is a sign that there is increasing awareness and hope on the horizon.

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
Follow up on post of 02-01-14, c diff researcher said new treatment will be available in 2016 - not so far away. More details later as I learn them.

This is GREAT news, Bobbie! Thanks for keeping us in the loop. If it's the SER-109 it looks super promising. If it comes out and has a high success rate my fears about getting pregnant will be a lot less! Would love to start a family and not worry if I need an antibiotic at some point. :)

Re: IMPORTANT NOTICE
I cannot wait! I went back and re-read the original post and am so glad it says c diff, ibs, and colitis... To repair damaged flora. I truly hope this is the end to the nightmare of c diff and it's horrible aftermath. Thanks for keeping us updated, Bobbie! I'm sure we'll all be first in line to get it and looking forward to the pizza and ice cream party :)

Oh wow....that is awesome. I am happy that it is near the end. Nobody should have to suffer with this horrible thing. All I can say is, yea for the researchers.
