Turmeric for temporary relief of diarrhea

Postby sickofbeingsick2 » Wed Apr 09, 2014 12:02 am

Turmeric will not cure anything, but it will make diarrhea substantially more manageable. It is a natural spice, it is safe, it is a staple of Indian food, it is possibly the most potent anti-inflammatory found in nature, it is good for your joints (supposedly), and it helps with IBS (supposedly).

I have c. diff. For me, it reduced urgency, stomach pain, and frequency and severity of diarrhea (fact).

I mix it in my food, or take a capsule right before a meal.

Also, here is Dr. Weil's suggestions for other herbs you can try for diarrhea:

Thanks so much to everyone here.

I started using tumeric in bites of food. I noticed a huge difference in colon pain...very reduced.
How much were you taking as a supplement?

My SIBO specialist recommended it to me too - actually curcumin, which is a derivative of it, but it gave me bad heartburn.

What is SIBO?

I knew turmeric was an anti inflammatory as I'd use a solution of turmeric and pure aloe to rid myself of a post labor hemorrhoid, and I instinctively tried it for this C. Diff colotis. I found that it's been much more tolerable if I use it in cooking as a light additive. I tried to dump a tablespoon onto a bite of food and I hated the flavor so much that it turned me off quite a bit.

Would love to try a capsule form, but is it as effective as the pure organic powdered form?

They make all kinds of different capsule forms - turmeric and curcumin. SIBO is a type of IBS that is a bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine. It gives food intolerances, D, etc. People get it after having had other intestinal infections such as c diff or even after a virus. I tested positive for it. Curcumin, I was told, helps not only the inflammation, but has some anti-microbial properties that would kill some of the bad bacteria. The doctor said it would not make a person relapse with c diff - don't think it is strong enough to kill a lot of good bacteria, but you would have to ask a doctor. Tumeric is the same. If you buy curcumin, it says it is from turmeric.
