can Florastor cause constipation?
I've been 'over' (knock wood) C-Diff for 6+ months...and I believe Florastor played a great part in my recovery..I now take 250mg. every other day, but I am started to have problems with constipation again...This was my major problem B.C-Diff, and I had hoped it was resolved. Does anyone have experience with Florastor causing, or seeming to cause, Constipation?

I don't know. It never did anything for me - good or bad. Check with your doc. or better yet check with a pharmacist. Also check some of the better medical sites.
Try drinking more water.

Re: can Florastor cause constipation?
I Googled this question, and many hits came up with an affirmative answer. So I'd say the answer is, yes, or at least, very likely. I've had a number of GI symptoms with probiotics and for that reason do not take them.
Also, I had my periodic consult w/my GI dr., who is a C. diff specialist, this morning. I raised the topic of probiotics, as so many posters on this site use them and recommend them, and I continue to wonder if it would be a good idea to take them. According to him, there is no convincing evidence, as of yet, that probiotics can prevent C. diff. The main risk factor, in his view, is antibiotics; possibly (though not definitively) probiotic consumption in conjunction with antibiotic use (at times when one can't avoid the latter) might help.

If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

Thanks, AllisS
I didn't get notified of your reply, or would have responded sooner...I suspect it is the Florastor causing the problem....and am going to go off it for awhile and see what happens; I think I went to an extreme, in my fear of returning C-Diff!

I am having this issue as well. Think I will stop the Florastor for a few days and see what happens. Any other suggestions?

Re: can Florastor cause constipation?
This thread is over 5 years old.
The recovery period after antibiotic treatment for c.diff is thought to be the important time that probiotics "might" be at their most helpful in preventing a relapse, that recovery period is several weeks or months and people that persevere with probiotics do seem to have better end results.
Constipation is probably not the result of probiotics.
Most diseases that cause a "clear out" result in a period of lower output simply because theres not much left!

Re: can Florastor cause constipation?
Florastor claims to help traveler's diarrhea, so perhaps it does tend to bind up stools. A few posters have reported it. I did not tolerate it well and for me, it gave me looser stools, a ton of gas, and even a rash. If you have C try eating foods with more fiber.
