Zinplava

Postby Susan64 » Mon Feb 28, 2022 1:09 pm

Have any of you tried this drug for treatment? I am scheduled for the infusion tomorrow. My gastroenterologist ordered it because there is no one in the area (120 mile area) performing a fecal transplant unless the patient is hospitalized and dying. My mother had recurrent c-diff and was “cured” with a fecal transplant. Then I come down with it a few years later from use of antibiotics given by an oral surgeon. I have had 5 episodes since mid September 2021. Thank you.

We have had a couple of posters who got it. You can type it in the search box to see if there are any old posts. We did not get much feedback though. One poster (Avalon) had it last year.

I followed the posters who had Zinplava after my ID recommended it. My understanding is it is given post treatment to avoid reoccurance.

I had CDIFF in 2014/15 and have 5 rounds of treatments. Finally a Dificid taper worked for me.

I came down again with it twice in 2020. My ID spoke with me about getting this. Once again the DIficid taper worked for me. As my symptoms improved and it was the initial treatment in 2020, we decided not to try it.

Wishing the best with it and let us know how you do

Hello, I’m a 35 yr female and have been battling c diff since November 2021 after being prescribed cefdinir and receiving a ceftriaxone injection for a suspected kidney infection. I ended up being hospitalized for a week that first week of November and treated with Vancomycin suspension. On January 8th I tested positive again at the er after treatment for h pylori and treated with Flagyl x14 days. Shortly after the c diff returned (positive test on January 28th) and I was treated with vancomycin 250mg capsules 4xd x14 days. Of course I relapsed shortly after (2/25 symptoms returned and my GI prescribed Dificid x10 days. I received a Zinplava infusion on the 10th day of taking Dificid (no reactions and the procedure took about 1.5 hours). The following day I also started a long Vancomycin taper. Today (5/25) was the last dose of my vancomycin taper and earlier this week I started noticing symptoms of no appetite, stomach pain, soft stools, then today severely loose stools and mucus. I’m afraid my c diff has returned and the Dificid, vanco taper and Zinplava were not successful. Im feeling so discouraged and depressed. This has been mentally and physically draining and I have lost 16lbs. I messaged my GI doctor this evening and am waiting to hear back. We were originally hoping for FMT but due to Covid it was not available to me.

You can ask the doctor if a family member who has been tested could be your donor. I used my daughter when I had FMT and husband the first time.

I ended up going to the ER this morning and it is c diff again. They told me the only cure for me is going to be the FMT but they weren’t able to find anywhere that’s doing them either (they told me due to Covid and there is no way to check the donor stool for Covid so they can’t be liable). They even checked with the colorectal team at the hospital. I may have found somewhere a couple of hours away so I’m waiting to hear back. In the meantime I’m back on Vancomycin another 2 weeks then follow up with my GI. I will ask if a family donor could be an option.

I saw your original post. Have you tired a Dificd taper? Do you have an ID specialist? The Dificid taper is what saved me in 2014-2015 when I had CDIFF for a year. At that time I was not able to get an FMT

Check with your GI or ID about a Dificid taper, it has worked for me a 2nd time when I was sick again in 2020.

I hope you can get a treatment that works for you soon

Thank you for your reply. I have not seen an ID. But I was lucky enough to find a GI who will do the FMT a couple of hours away. I have a consult with them June 7th and I’m hopeful it will be successful. If not I will ask my GI for a Dificid taper (I mentioned it to the ER and they still prescribed me vanco). I know it was difficult for my insurance to approve 10 days the last time. Do you know how long the Dificid taper typically is? I think I read on here most are for 30 days…is that right?
