Well, here's the latest... A Canadian doctor is
offering treatment by way of infusion (He is in
contact with Dr. Borody so the treatment is the same -only now it's in North America.) The catch is that he is only going to do the procedure on select patients according to a strict admission requirement.

READ HIS MESSAGE CAREFULLY BELOW - BEFORE CONTACTING HIM. IF YOU DO NOT MEET ALL CRITERIA, HE WILL NOT TREAT YOU.

------------------------------
"As mentioned previously I can only accept patients on a case by case basis, then needless to say these individuals would likely be the most
debilitated or desperate. However that being said I assume many or most if not all patients here are
pretty desperate. For now patients should be
healthy enough to travel to Toronto (Canada). They
must have fully documented C.Diff infection. I must have access to full medical history including imaging procedures as colonoscopy, xrays, biopsies, consult notes from doctors and specialists etc. For now they will have to be accompanied by healthy donor who has not had antibiotics for at least 3 months and have
documented proof of absence of communicable disease such as TB; Hepatitis A,B,C; stools
tested for culture, parasitology and of course C.Diff.

As of yet we have not established a donor program for long distance travellers but that would be in the 'works'. Also as our hospital has a web site, I would hope to have this info on the Hospital web site. So if
you know of anyone you deem sufficiently desperate you may give them my email address..let us use hotmail: dkreaden@hotmail.com

Sincerely...David Kreaden"
--------------------

Again, please don't contact him unless you meet all criteria and you are not able to enjoy a sunny, fun-filled vacation to see Dr. Borody in Australia at his new clinic.

Sam

[Guest Posted by: 'Bobbie']

I was browsing the web last night and found these two articles that are very interesting about fecal enemas...just more proofs that it works. May be the reference to these articles is already on this site...I have not read everything that is on this site and I apologise if it's already here.
I printed them and will show them to my GI if I have another relapse...Actually I will show them even if I don't have a relapse, may be it will help other patients with c-diff. I might be naive but since one of the article was published in THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY...I just thought may be I could talk her( my GI) into doing it to me if I need it. From what I read on this site here, no doctors do it in the USA but from one article it looks like there might be one in NY city.

"Germs that do a body good; Bacteria might someday keep the doctor away. Sophie,
Thanks for the information. I'll post these two websites in the FAQ section under "Infusion Information." I looked at the first one but was unable to get into the second one and received an "error" message but will try it again.

Dr. Tom Borody in Sydney, Australia, Dr. David Kneden in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Lawrence Brandt at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY, and Dr. Seth Persky on Long Island, NY, do the infusions. (Dr. Brandt is mentioned in the first article.) Dr. Mark Allen in KC does a different bacterial procedure called "the broth." The contact information for all the doctors is listed in the "doctors" section. Several people who have posted on this site have done the infusion at home through their own doctors with Dr. Borody's and his nurse Sharyn's help. Dr. Allen has said he would also advise any doctors in other areas on his procedure. I had Dr. Allen's "broth" after two bouts with C. diff., and it was successful two out of three times.

One of the reasons that Sam and Lori founded this site was to share information, and, hopefully, one day help find a cure and/or preventation for this awful disease. Thanks for your contribution.

[Guest Posted by: 'Bobbie']

I forgot to mention that the second article, the one from THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY is from the november issue. So to make things easier...when you get to the website click on "previous issues" then click on
" volume 95 " , then click "issue 11 ( november)" then scroll down to page 3283-3285.

[Guest Posted by: 'sophie']

Just a FYI - was sick with C-Diff very bad for close to 2 years -- tried Flagyl, Vanco, immune globulin, s boulardi everything!! Found a doctor in Canada that was willing to try fecal transplant - really simple procedure - and I was cured.

I was also cured quickly and easily from the fecal transplant method. It really does work!! My doc in New jersey was very supportive, but it was Dr. Borody and Sharyn who guided me. They are terrific. If anyone wants more details on this, feel free to email me at Metropd22@aol.com .

I'm in Canada so I wish I was in the US. I will keep this in mind. Dorothy, how long did you wait before you turned to the treatments?

MicheleL,
Compared to others on this site, I wasn't sick all that long although it was severe. I got sick at the end of Feb. 2003, and I did the treatments the 2nd week of June 2003. They worked right away.
What happened was that I was on a long course of vanco and was planning on trying pulsing off. I decided to contact Sharyn Leis, Dr, Borody's nurse just to find out what the treatment entailed just in case the pulsing fsiled. Several people on this site were posting things about the tx. and how nice and helpful Dr. B's staff was so I figured what do I have to lose. I emailed them and within 12 hrs., had a response. Sharyn convinced me not to pulse, because she said it either works or it makes the c-diff stronger. She said that the longer you have been on a full dose of vanco, the better the chance of the treatment working. So I stayed on the vanco until I did it. It took a while to get it all together. I had to get my donor (my husband) screened, get the supplies and instructions and figure out what to do with the kids while i did it. All in all once I got going it was easy. Easy that is compared to having c-diff. I had a lot of faith in the treatment too. Once I made up my mind to do it, I relaxed in the thought that I would get better. I never even considered the thought that it would fail. I just knew that this was the answer for me and that it would work...and it did. I have no residual symptoms at all. No pain no Ibs no diarrehea no nothing. As a matter of fact my bowels are very regular and "normal", much more so than before c-diff. I have not taken any antibiotics since, but in theory I should be able to. I am in no hurry to test that theory!! I just got over bronchitis and a sinus infection and it was a slow process but I don't want to mess around with the chance of it coming back. I also take Primal Defense 1-2 per day and Perfect Food another Garden of Life product. I eat one stonyfield farms yogurt a day.
If you want to know more email me. I spoke on the phone with a few people who had done it before I made up my mind and this helped me. I'm here if you need me. I hate the thought of anyone suffering with this monster. Best of Luck.

MicheleL,
I am in Canada as well. I did the treatment 1.5 years ago with Dr. Borody and Sharyn's help and got cured right away after a year of suffering.

MX
