New! Advice about dificid and possible 2nd FMT

Postby Jess123 » Sat Jan 27, 2018 2:08 am

I have had c diff for 3.5 months now with 4 relapses. I failed flagyl and 2 rounds of vancomyacin. We did a FMT via colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and I am retesting tomorrow, about to be told I’m having my 5th relapse.
My infectious disease dr went ahead and prescribed dificid so I can pick it up and begin treatment as soon as positive result comes back. Would it be too preemptive to ask my GI specialist to schedule another FMT as soon as the Medication runs it course? I’m so concerned of failing again and the wait game has been terrible. I want to have a clear path for once. Any advice?

Why are you testing?
Is it only to see if its gone?
Has full on D returned?

Yes symptoms have returned, after the FMT life never returned to normal and have progressively been getting worse

Hello and Welcome to the site Please read the first thread for all new posters

Sorry you had to find us, especially with several relapses. I went through 5 over one year, never tested just went 100% of my symptoms which were very clear each time I relapsed up to 3-4 weeks apart. I was not able to get in with the GI who did FMT's in 2014, many had stopped due to FDA restrictions. I was on a waiting list for 4 months and my only option was a DIficid taper which I actually researched myself. My GI agreed because I had no options. It worked and I have been CDIFF free nearly 3 years. I would talk with the ID about a Dificid taper which has worked for many on this site. In my case, we booked the FMT but once I completed the TAPER of Dificid it was not needed. I do want to add I did FAIL the initial 10 day Dificid treatment, the taper was what did the trick
Wishing you the best

Hi, I had a successful FMT about ten months ago. It was successful the first time. But I wanted to tell you my doctor who has been doing Fmt’s at UVA for four years handles FMT failure by treating with a round of Dificid then doing a second FMT immediately following the meds, in all cases.
