San Diego Fecal Transplant Tomorrow (Jul 18, 2016)

Postby Bizzy » Sun Jul 17, 2016 1:17 pm

Hello group. This is the first posting of my experience with CDiff, which has relapsed remitted 6x over the last 6 years.

I was first diagnosed in 2010 after some routine dental work. Most individuals expect a mild degree of diarrhea during antibiotic therapy, because it destroys one's good gut bacteria. Unfortunately, many do not realize that if that diarrhea presents with a very distinct, foul smell, and with increasing frequncy, one may have CDiff .

After a 14-day course of Vancomycin, I wrongly assumed that that was the end; never to return, like so many bad 'Nightmare on Elm Street' sequels. Seems I'm a carrier.

Needless to say I went to my 4th gastroenterologist, whose subclinical speciality is fecal transplantation and liver disease. Upon reviewing my history ( # relapses), Dr. Dilauro's staff scheduled me for an FMT ...the CDiff sufferer's last resort.

This procedure requires the open mind, skill, and expertise of a GI Super-Specialist. 80% success rate. I'll take it. LOL. I have languished in bed for 3 weeks unable to take care of myself, do laundry, see my grandchildren, all the while waiting to die. But I summoned the strength to get over to Coastal Gastroenterology in Encinitas, California. I have such high hopes, because as I compose this msg, I'm so weak, depleted, I've lost 20 pounds in about 4 months, I cannot stop crying nothing, can't pay my bills because I've run out of leave. I work for the Federal Government; not much sympathy there.

*Nothing* compares to this pain -childbirth and appendicitis included.

I will log on and report my progress .

May everyone find peace through chaos and beyond suffering.

Be Encouraged.

Good luck with your procedure tomorrow. I had to travel up to Oakland for mine back in 2008. I assume you are having it via colonoscopy? Let us know how it goes.

Prayers for you that this will be the treatment that will bring this nightmare to an end for you. Best of luck and let us know how you do. I think the odds are higher than 80%, more like 95% so much hope there for you. Hang on to that.

Hi Bizzy
Another welcome to the site , sorry you are dealing with Cdiff. What kind of FMT are you going to have : via colonoscopy , enema , naso-gastric? The FMT via colonoscopy has the highest cure rate , and combined with a top-down delivery is even better. Praying that FMT is the end of Cdiff for you. Keep us posted!

Hi Bizzy - I am so sorry that you have been dealing with c-diff for so long. For some this illness can really wreak havoc and take so long to be cured of. It sounds like you have found a great doctor and are doing the best possible treatment to cure this beast once and for all. Praying that your FMT goes well and you can finally move away from this time in your life.

Hi Bizzy. By now you should have had the transfer and hopefully are on your way to recovery.
It is about time. It has been too many years struggling with relapses of this illness.
I know we are all looking forward to hearing from you and supporting you through the recovery process in the days ahead.

Best of luck, Bizzy.

My FMT tool awhile to "take" so do not be disappointed if it is not an immediate miracle cure.
