Dificid. Recommended by Cdiff foundation

I am thinking about asking my doctor about dificid.
I just completed two rounds of Vanco (liquid)
Each time Vanco helps in a few days and comes back
Within a week after treatment . Also think the
Liquid may not have been as effective as a pill.
Does anyone have any feedback on dificid .
I spoke to the cdiff foundation who were
Very knowledgeable and they highly recommended
Dificid since it was developed specifically for
Cdiff. Very expensive and if you are on a
Medicare part d prescription plan you do
Not qualify for a coupon . But if you have
A commercial plan you can get coupons

I did not take Dificid, but I can tell you that there are several on this site, who were cured by Dificid after vanco and vanco tapers failed. I'm sure they will be along soon to reply. A couple of them actually did Dificid tapers - NikaNik and NancIT, which cured them. I think it's a good next step before an FMT. Dificid also doesn't kill your good gut flora, which is another positive.

I did take DIficid, ended up on a taper dose which did clear me of CDIFF. I would go to the website and contact them. We have many here who have gotten the help with this medication.

I am on my third bout with c-diff. First Flagyl, didn't work, then vanco, didn't work and caused all kinds of arthritic problems that I am dealing with and now I am finally on dificid and for the first time I am feeling good and everything is coming out like it should (if you get my drift.) It is super expensive because it is new but it was created to combat c-diff specifically. Too bad it isn't the first thing they give someone but I was told because of the price most don't try it. What a shame. I am praying that this time
I will finally be rid of cdiff. I had so many problems with the flagyl and vanco that I was afraid to try this one but so far so good. I am on anti-inflamatory meds because of the pain when taking the vanco. Went to the Rheumatoid Dr. today and after a few more weeks I should be free and clear. I hate cdiff and what it has done to my once healthy body. I hope that a vaccine or something is soon to be ready for all of us who have had to suffer from this horrible bacteria. I got mine originally from taking Cipro.

Hi Mary, I'm right there with you. We are carbon copy in our treatments. Flagyl was a disaster and of course I relapsed. Vanco for two rounds and I relapsed after both. Took my first Dificid two hours ago. Now I pray and wait. Good luck to both of us! I'm on a 10 day dose but plan to ask my doctor to put me on a taper after this just to be sure.

I am 80 days out of my last dose of Dificid and believe it has been the answer. I had four relapses after Flagyl, Vanco, Vanco and Vanco plus taper, relapsing each time at about two weeks post treatment. I take VSL3 and kefir daily. I got to the point of being able to eat only soft, easily digested foods (oatmeal, rice, potatoes, applesauce, avocado and gluten free bread) In the last 10 days I have begun to add and some foods of my diet back in. Stomach discomfort comes after eating, but I know it is a long process. In ten more days I will consider myself cured with Dificid. It was by far the easiest medicine too for me to tolerate while being treated. And I considered myself so fortunate since, after some negotiation between my drs office, insurance and the pharmacy, I did get approval for it. I don't want to jinx my recovery, but I'm a Dificid fan.

Dificid worked for me as well. I relapsed a week after Flagyl, a week after Vanco and sought out a c diff specialist in NYC who put me on a 30-day taper of Dificid with Enteragam. It's been almost a year since my last dose of Dificid (he had me take the Enteragam for a few months after to help heal the gut). I was lucky that in early recovery I had only some minor IBS (although it took a while - months even for my pre c diff appetite to come back. Not sure if that was from the medication or anxiety, or both). I stuck to a mostly bland diet for a while (I say "mostly" because I'm a wedding photographer and occasionally ate whatever was available at cocktail hour and for dinner during those times). My doctor said to keep introducing foods and, after about five months, I started adding more and more and now I'm eating just about anything and everything and feeling great - extremely thankful! Hang in there. I felt at time that it would never go away and that I would never feel normal again, yet here I am. You will beat this!

NikaNik, what was your 30 day taper schedule?

He had me on the regular dosage (2 a day for 10 days), then 1 pill a day for 30 days. Enteragam is a medical food for IBS-D but has been shown to disable c diff toxins - they say it takes about 4-6 weeks to kick in. He had me take as much as I could tolerate (I mixed it with kefir or water). I took it 2-3 times a day at first (even up to 4 times), then went up and down depending on the day and eventually tapered off.

Glad to hear you have gone 3 months post CDIFF this time.
3 months is still pretty early for 100% recovery.
Don't be upset if it takes a few more months.
It's normal.


I never used dificid so I won't comment on it.
